One of the perils of being a vintage gamer is that classic games are often hard to get your hands on. Once a game goes out of style and console technology takes another leap forward, it can be hard to find old games. This is especially true for horror games, where the classics have a vintage, spooky vibe that’s hard to capture these days. Nintendo Switch Online users are in luck as the store adds three classic horror games just in time for Halloween, including one Game Boy game and two NES classics.

Three Spooky Games Available for Nintendo Switch Online Subscribers

Nintendo Switch Online has added Castlevania Legends, The Mysterious Murasame Castle, and Devil World just in time to celebrate Halloween. All three games can be found under the Nintendo Switch Online Classics catalog, which is available to all Nintendo Online subscribers. Some of the games in the catalog are exclusive to the Expansion Pack tier, but all of the new games are being added to the base tier.

If you’re interested, check out the new games added to Nintendo Switch Online:

  • Castlevania Legends (1998): Originally released for the Game Boy, Castlevania Legends features young vampire hunter Sonia Belmont as she takes her grandfather’s whip and travels to Dracula’s castle to defeat the fearsome vampire. Defeat mini-bosses to earn Soul Weapons, and activate Burning Mode to become invincible once per level.
  • The Mysterious Murasame Castle (1986): The Mysterious Murasame Castle is an NES game that follows the brave swordsman Takamaru. Armed with a sword and some shurikens, Takamaru has been sent to investigate the darkness overtaking Murasame Castle and its four dark lords nearby.
  • Devil World (1984): Another NES classic, Devil World puts you in control of Tamagon, a heroic little dragon. As Tamagon, you’ll have to navigate a mysterious and deadly maze filled with collectibles and enemies to be defeated. Meanwhile, the maze itself is moving at the whims of a tricky devil lurking at the top of the screen.

The initial responses to all of these games were varied at best. Thankfully, all three are now being given a second chance through the Nintendo Online classics catalog, and just in time for Halloween. If you’re a classic gamer looking for a hit of spooky nostalgia, be sure to snag these while you can!
