Fans of the new Star Wars film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, may be disappointed to hear that DLC revolving around the new film is not going to be coming to the new Star Wars game, Star Wars Battlefront.

Developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts, a representative via Star Wars Battlefront’s official Twitter account addressed what many fans thought would make a cool addition to the game.

@ninjachris404 Our team is focusing on the original trilogy for this release of Star Wars Battlefront.

— EA Star Wars (@EAStarWars) December 24, 2015

Fans of the game as well, as the film, may be confused, then, why the Battle of Jakku was released for Star Wars Battlefront in early December. The DLC, which includes two new maps, as well as a new gameplay mode, takes place 29  years before the main events of the film. The season pass for Star Wars Battlefront, which you can view the exact details here, will add new gameplay modes, maps, heroes and villains, as well as new weapons to play.

It seems odd that EA has chosen not to capitalize on the ongoing, and enormous, success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. However, they may not have access to any characters or properties created through the new trilogy. It would make sense of Disney to keep a tight hold on newer properties developed, in order to avoid any unnecessarily poor uses of the properties. New characters such as Poe, Finn, Rey, and Kylo Ren can’t just be thrown around if they are expected to be the new faces of a legendary franchise.

However, it would have been cool to play as Kylo Ren on Jakku or the Starkiller base, taking on any Resistance members such as Poe or Finn. The tweet does say “for this release of Star Wars Battlefront,” so the developers seem to  be saving any future Star Wars content, such as characters from Rogue One, and The Force Awakens, for future sequels.

What do you think? Is this an unfortunate missed opportunity, or is Star Wars Battlefront still the best Star Wars game in recent memory? Let us know in the comments far, far below!
