Developers of No Man’s Sky, Hello Games could have cut and run when they launched back in 2016, but they have been updating and adding ever since, the Synthesis update that launches today (28th of September) will be the eighth major update to the game.

There are around 300 changes including tweaks in the update, so for obvious reasons, we won’t list them all here. But some of the more notable changes include:

  • New features in VR (Photo mode and creature riding)
  • First-person Exocraft (vehicles) is now available on all versions of the game
  • Ability to carry more than one multi-tool
  • Ships can be traded in for scrap to gain materials or upgrade them
  • New triangular base building parts for extra flexibility
  • Ability to flatten and restore the terrain instantly
  • Personal refiner, so you can refine wherever you are
  • New technologies such as mid-air jetpack recharging, long-distance inventory management (and more)

The full list can be viewed here, Hello Games have separated more notable parts of the update at the top, with the full list of improvements at the bottom of the page. The previous update, Beyond was a considerably substantial one offering for the first time in No Man’s Sky, VR support, multiplayer and a lot more.

It makes sense then that the Synthesis update is somewhat focused on ensuring everything in the Beyond update is running smoothly.

When No Man’s Sky launched in 2016. There were heaps of complaints, largely due to the hype built around the game. But also due to the lack of core elements, including multiplayer. No Man’s Sky had much more potential than what it was offering, but through continued updates, the game has become almost unrecognizable, in a good way. If you played the game when it first launched, and pick it up again today you will feel as though you are experiencing a whole new game.
