North Carolina Landlady Violates Tenant’s Privacy by Entering Room Without Warning To Turn off A/C: ‘She Claims Lease Agreement Because She Used AI To Write It’

What a creepy and weird thing to do

The sense of entitlement that some people believe they have over others can be infuriating. That said, being thrifty is admirable, but an obnoxious North Carolina landlady takes things to the next level by entering her tenant’s room without warning or consent to turn off their A/C. One could argue that she owns the place, but the legal agreement in the lease states a 24-hour notice is legally required for her to enter without consent. Still, she thoughtlessly barges into the renter’s room and repeatedly checks the thermostat to make sure the A/C is off.

“I told her the room was getting hot and I would be leaving it on,” the tenant said, as their room gets humid and reaches temperatures of 90+ degrees. Regardless, “she would enter, turn it off,” and tell them that they need to keep it off. “She is making it hard to live here,” the tenant complains, and who could blame them? “I feel really weird about her just entering, and it really is messing with me.” Even though the renter even recorded her on camera in the act, she only becomes more persistent and even aggressively rude. Needless to say, they want out of the lease.

“It’s probably illegal for her to enter the space you are renting unless your lease says she can,” says a Reddit user in the tenant’s complaint post about their situation. “The lease requires 24 hours notice, but she claims it doesn’t count since she didn’t know because she used AI to write it,” they responded. If she signed the contract, it doesn’t matter whether AI wrote it or if she failed to read it; she’s legally obligated to follow suit. “Lmao she admitted to not reading her own lease. That’s golden,” chimes in another Redditor. “You should sue her, just for my entertainment,” adds in a third.

Likewise, he should end up suing her if she doesn’t let him leave and return the lease’s down payment. Barging into any tenant’s room without warning or consent is a blatant violation of their privacy, and it is also a breach of the terms of any normal lease. The landlady might have saved a few dollars of electricity, but her unreasonable behavior will cost her a tenant.
