Most adults consider wearing clothes with sexual innuendos printed on them to be somewhat taboo if not inappropriate in public. However, sex jokes on clothing for young children, toddlers, even? Out of the question! But that’s exactly what North Carolina-based mom Savannah from New York discovered on her baby daughter’s dress. Some sexual Easter puns for the bedroom, not for writing on a child’s apparel. And before you go thinking, “Nah, it can’t be that bad,” it actually is.
In a TikTok post warning parents to “Read your kids’ clothes carefully 😳😳,” Savannah shows her followers what outrageous things her daughter’s seemingly cute-looking dress says. At a glance, the pastel-colored onepiece looks very innocent, decorated with bunnies, Easter eggs, jelly beans, baby chicks, and the like. However, if you take a closer look at what was written on each of the dress’s artsy patches, you’ll realize that it’s comments an adult couple would say, not a child.
“Want to have an Easter Egg Hunt under the covers?” reads one joke. “This Coupon entitles you to 1 Free Peep Show,” reads another. Each comment gets more inappropriate, from bunny-mating behavior and ear-nibbling to lips-to-genital innuendos. It doesn’t take a genius to understand what these jokes are playing at, and even if it’s meant for just parents to read while they’re near to or holding their child, it’s still wildly indecent. Online users were unsurprisingly shocked and outraged that such a dress would even be sold on a website for children’s clothing.
“OMG ‘my tulips (two lips)’ WTF??” remarks a TikTok commenter in disbelief. “It’s just kept getting worse, but the tulips one THAT’S CRAZY,” agrees another. “*it can’t be that bad*… nvm 😭😭😭,” says a third. “WHO APPROVED THAT FOR BABY CLOTHES?? they need to be on a watch list WTF,” added a fourth. At first, you might have believed the dress was sold by some “Temu/Shein knock off.” But actually, it was a product from a “‘mama boutique’ which buys cute clothes cheap from overseas from wholesalers and sells to their American brethren.” The business’s name is Lele & Co.
On its website, Lele & Co has addressed this bizarre discovery and apologized formally. The statement reads:
“I would like to express my deepest apologies for the inappropriate text found on one of the clothing items sold in my store. This particular piece was a resale item from a vendor, and regrettably, I did not catch the offensive wording before it was listed. Please rest assured that this does not align with the values I uphold or support. We are in the process of taking any and all necessary legal actions with the vendor.”
“For the record, the item in question has been promptly removed from my website and all social media accounts. All remaining stock was destroyed immediately.”
In short, the children’s clothing reseller made a huge mistake in not properly checking the products it was putting into its stock. Even though this singular instance might have been dealt with to an extent, Lele & Co’s reputation has been tainted for good and has likely marred how many will begin to view other boutiques as well.
