‘Obnoxious’ New Jersey Driver ‘Pretending To Be a Cop’ Tailgates Random Car: ‘Yeah, They Know What They’re Doing’

Definitely abusing their vehicle’s appearance

An encounter these days with anyone even slightly resembling a police officer or ICE agent can be quite the care, especially in today’s political climate. That said, a New Jersey company driver for East Coast Emergency Lighting decided to be a little devious while going down the highway and tailgated a random car. The target driver, who was on their way to work, almost had a “30-minute mini-heart attack” because they thought the company driver was a police officer. After all, the employee was driving in a demo vehicle marketed directly to first responders. But the internet wasn’t too happy with the annoying driver’s behavior.

“Holy sh*t is that obnoxious,” the top commenter said in the victim driver’s Reddit. A reply pointed out that it’s probably a demonstration vehicle that showcases all the different options the car comes with, such as the siren lights built on top. “And with paint color and logo styling JUST like what is commonly used by cop cars? Yeah, they know what they’re doing,” adds another. “You know they just love the fact most people think they are a cop,” chimes in a third.

So, why did this company driver in a demo police vehicle decide to tailgate a random car? Other than being”obnoxious,” as many believe, there’s literally no reason. OP states that the speed limit on their highway to work is 70, but they were going 80 when the demo car pulled up and started to harass them. “I thought it was a cop, [so] I lowered it down to 75/76ish. So he had no reason to tailgate me,” they explain. “I was in the right lane, and there were plenty of opportunities for him to pass me in the left lane. 🤷🏼‍♀️“

Even though there’s nothing legally wrong with the company’s showcase, how the driver bullied the driver is unacceptable. “Those ‘stealthy’ cop cars are annoying and stupid enough, but PRETENDING to be one is just an extra level of gross. F**k that,” angrily remarks a Redditor. “The odds that they randomly pull over attractive women and pretend to be a cop are VERY high…and it’s creepy af,” adds another. While going to that level of suspicion is rather extreme, many feel it’s highly likely the driver abuses their vehicle’s appearance to get away with trashy behavior.
