  • Once Human Mod System Explained
  • Where to Farm Purple and Gold/Legendary Mods in Once Human

The most reliable way to ensure that you deal enough damage against bosses and regular enemies in Once Human is by choosing the right mods for your gear. Come Level 40+, you’ll be showered with mods both gold and purple rarity, and it can be overwhelming trying to understand a system that you must now rely on due to the difficulty spike. I’m here to help you understand and take advantage of the mod system in Once Human as well as where to farm them.

Once Human Mod System Explained

Mods are upgrades you can insert into your gear. Don’t worry about using them right away since you can remove them and reuse them. They’re not disposable. Like gear, they also come in different rarity levels:

  • White (lowest)
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Purple
  • Gold/Legendary (highest)

You want at least Purple mods once you start reaching Level 40 or above. The rarity dictates just how many substats the mod has or how many enhancements you can perform. Mods all have primary stats and several substats.

Additionally, there are two main types of mods in Once Human, Weapon Mods and Armor Mods. Each uses different enhancement currencies and naturally, can only fit into either weapons or armor. They do have other differences apart from that:

  • Weapon Mod stat bonuses are only active for your current held weapon.
  • Armor Mod stat bonuses are always active for every armor piece you’re wearing.

So because of this, you’re usually going to need more Armor Mods than weapon mods (since there are six pieces of armor and only three weapon slots.

Mod Labels and Substats to Look For

In addition to the mod rarity in Once Human, mods are further categorized based on their affix label. This affix dictates their substat and being picky with the mod’s affix. Here are the mod affixes and substats you want depending on your build:

Mod Affix/LabelGuaranteed SubstatIdeal Build
<Violent>Crit DMGShrapnel / Frost Vortex / Sniper/ Crit / Power Surge
<Precision>Weakspot DMGSniper
<Talents>Element DMGJaws / Power Surge
<Power Surge>Power Surge DMGPower Surge

Keep in mind that some mods don’t have an affix or label, and in such cases, their first substat might default to Weapon DMG. Other desirable substats include:

  • Weapon DMG
  • DMG against Great Ones (bosses)
  • DMG against normal enemies
  • DMG against Elite enemies
  • Max HP
  • Reload Speed Bonus

Where to Farm Purple and Gold/Legendary Mods in Once Human

There are three main methods for farming purple and gold mods in Once Human and they all have their own pros and cons. Also, keep in mind that certain mods for your build (i.e. Shrapnel) are only available from certain Monolith Bosses or Silos.

With that in mind, here are the three methods for farming purple and gold mods:

MethodProsCons
Weapon & Gear Crates-Huge variety of mods-Limited accessibility; crates only replenish every 4 hours
Monolith Bosses-Better for specific Weapon Mod farming-Requires Controllers
-Needs a complete Level 50 build for Hard/Pro difficulty
Securement Silo
-Better for specific Armor Mod farming
-Requires Controllers
-Needs a complete Level 50 build for Hard/Pro difficulty
