Overwatch 2, the upcoming hero-based first-person shooter, has been announced to release in Early Access on October 4! The release will also see the introduction of the newest tank, Junker Queen, alongside the game going free-to-play (which frankly should’ve been done a long while ago if you ask me). Take a look at the release date reveal trailer below!

What’s New With Overwatch 2?

As previously revealed for the game, Overwatch 2 brings with a host of gameplay changes, improvements, and new features. This includes the new damage hero Sojourn, 5v5 over 6v6 team compositions, a wide array of reworks to adapt to the new formula, new hero designs, and much more! And with the game going completely free-to-play, you’ll be able to join up with anyone you wish. If you’re a previous owner of the first Overwatch, you aren’t out of that celebration either. Those who log in before December 5, 2022 that own Overwatch 1 can score themselves a Founder’s Pack, which includes epic skins for both Doomfist and Sombra, alongside a founder’s player icon and a surprise gift that will arrive prior to Overwatch 2’s October 4 release.

Referencing specifically the free-to-play change announced today, the Overwatch team had this to say in a new blog post:

At its core, we believe the game is a social experience that should be shared with everyone. This shift to free-to-play will open up and make the world of Overwatch available to more people than ever before, removing the barrier of entry and making it easier than ever to quickly jump into a match with friends. Inclusion is a strong driving force for this decision; when we stick together and work as a team, there’s nothing that can stand in our way.”

Now, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Are you excited to tear it up as the Junker Queen in Overwatch 2 when it releases on October 4? What did you think of the first beta, if you got the chance to play it? Let me know!
