In the cozy, cooperative MMO Palia, you can build your own dream house where you’ll do most of your crafting and relaxing. You can also grow your own farm through the Gardening Skill, either for profit or to fill up your pantry, or just for fun. If you want to learn everything about Gardening in Palia including the best crops to grow, then this guide has your back.

Palia Guide: All Gardening Tools
Before you can start Gardening in Palia, this guide will tell you every item you need to prepare. Basically, you’ll have to own four types of items: Soil, Fertilizer, Hoe, and Watering Can.
Soil is needed to plant the crops, but you can only carry up to nine Soil at a time. And the price will increase depending on how many you’re currently carrying. Fertilizer is used to buff your plants, such as increasing their quality or harvest yield, making them grow faster, etcetera. Planted crops actually have their own unique properties that affect surrounding crops, but we’ll get to it later. Fertilizers are obtained from crafting, purchased from the Gardening Skill Store, or as a byproduct from the Worm Farm.
As for Hoe and Watering Can, Badruu should hand them out to you for free along with some Soil. But you’ll be able to upgrade the last two items further. Here’s a quick guide on the variety of Gardening items in Palia.

Other than that, you eventually will unlock more items to help you grow your farm. At Gardening Level 2, the recipe for Seed Collector will become available. At Level 8, you’ll unlock the Preserves Jar for pickling and making jams. There’s also the Worm Farm needed to make your own Fertilizer. But it’s only unlocked once you reach Fishing Level 4 instead.
What Are The Best Crops to Grow? Explained
In terms of the best crops in Palia, if we’re talking about selling price, then Apples and Blueberries are your best bet. But here’s the catch; you can’t get your hands on them until you hit Level 10 in Gardening and acquire tons of Gardening Skill Medals.
Here’s some juicy bit. Tomatoes are much more profitable in the long run. They only take one Soil slot, are quick to grow, and you don’t need to replant them after a harvest. And guess what? They’re considered Vegetables, so you can easily utilize them for Recipes too.
If you’re looking for making the maximum amount of profit, don’t sell the Tomatoes though. Instead, use the Seed Collector to turn them into seeds first then sell them! Meanwhile, with Preserve Jar, you would want to make Pickled Potatoes. These can be sold for 68 Gold each. Below are the stats of all currently available crops in the game.

To do some Gardening in Palia, you’ll need the seeds of those crops listed above. They can be purchased from Zeki’s General Store. How To Grow Crops on Your Farm
Badruu will teach you the basics of gardening during the “Gardening 101” tutorial quest. Nonetheless, we will guide you through the fundamentals of gardening and growing crops in Palia as well.
1. Place the Soil in the Plot Area
Now with all the Gardening gear in your hands, it’s time to get down and dirty. First off, find a nice spot in your Plot area to place the Soil. Open the Build Mode and press the Left Mouse Click to place the Soil. Try placing them next to each other to merge them.
2. Tend to the Soil with the Hoe
Hold down the R key and pick the Hoe Tool from your Tool Wheel. Now, hold the Left Mouse Click Button while wiggling your mouse to hoe the plot. Remember, there are nine tiles in each plot of Soil, so make sure you get them all.
3. Plant and Don’t Forget to Take Care of Your Seeds
Then it’s time to grab the seeds from your inventory and start planting the crops. You can only put one seed per tile. Afterward, fill up your Watering Can and give your seeds a drink. Some basics from other life simulation games like Stardew Valley apply, but this guide will tell you other invaluable Palia Gardening tips.
First, obviously, seeds will take a few in-game days to grow. But your crops actually can’t die! However, to grow properly, they still need to be watered and weeded. To make things easier for you, you can use Fertilizers or utilize the previously mentioned crops’ “unique properties.”
Remember the “Effect” column in the Palia Gardening guide crops table above? Planted crops can give their surrounding plants a buff. For example, planting a Tomato makes other crops around it need much less water than usual. Crops planted around an Apple tree will have faster growth time. And etcetera.
Similar bonuses can be applied by Fertilizer as well, though. You can apply one Fertilizer per Soil tile, but you can apply it for multiple days at a time. And if you use the wrong Fertilizer on a crop, don’t worry. Just put the right one on top and you’ll get the previous one back. Don’t forget that how many fertilizers you need to use depends on how many Soil tiles a crop use! That means, Carrot only consumes one tile and Fertilizer, while Blueberry needs four tiles and Fertilizer.
Lastly, make sure that you water, weed, or use a Fertilizer before 6 AM in-game time. Because that’s the exact moment when the plant grows each day. If plants aren’t watered or weeded, they won’t die but won’t grow too.
4. Time to Reap What You Sow
Are your crops finally ready to be harvested? Simply approach them and press the F key to enjoy the fruits and veggies of your labor. You’ll raise your Gardening Level by planting and harvesting crops. Vacant Soils can then be reused for other crops.
