Path of Exile 2 New Classes Explained

This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

Path of Exile 2, in true sequel fashion, has doubled the fun by adding six new classes on top of the already existing six from its predecessor. That means even more variety in an already complex ARPG. If you want to shorten your time in the character creation screen so you can dive straight into the action, here are all of the Path of Exile 2 new classes explained.

Druid

A Druid is also among the Path of Exile 2 new classes if youโ€™ve ever been disappointed at how another certain ARPG handled its Druid class. Itโ€™s most similar to the Templar, a combination of Strength and Intelligence.

Much like the Druid in other ARPGs, the Druid in Path of Exile 2 is also some kind of jack-of-all-trades class.  Itโ€™s primarily a spellcaster who can be tanky by channeling nature and shapeshifting into animals (usually a bear).

When in an animal form, youโ€™ll also be confining yourself to melee combat, most of the time. Itโ€™s a familiar class for those who have experience in druid classes.

Huntress

Huntress is quite an odd choice since the Ranger from the original Path of Exile exists. It also seems to be suited well for quick-Dexterity-based skills. However, it looks to have a tighter melee focus compared to the Ranger and it might play out more similarly to the Raider ascendancy class of the Ranger)

A lot of comparisons were drawn with Diablo 2โ€™s Amazon class since the Huntress in Path of Exile 2 uses a spear and a buckler. It even has a lightning spear attack with a focus on high DPS.

Mercenary

Similar to the Dexterity-based classes in the original Path of Exile, the Mercenary in Path of Exile 2 is also a nimble high-dexterity class but with an interesting twist. The way it was revealed made the Mercenary class look like a character from a twin-stick shooter game.

The Mercenary is armed with a gun-like crossbow. To make control feel smoother, you can control their movement via WASD keys instead of just clicking. Additionally, you can modify the crossbows (theyโ€™re really just pseudo-guns at this point) for tool-based customization.

No doubt the Mercenary might just become a veteran favorite. Great class for those looking for something fresh among the new classes in Path of Exile 2.

Monk

The Monk is another odd class in Path of Exile since it is most comparable to the Shadow (a combination of Intelligence and Dexterity). Except instead of an immoral killer-for-hire, itโ€™s now a clergyman filling in for the Dex-Int role.

Likewise, you can treat the Monk like a glass-cannon class since it appears to toy around with melee spellcasting. Itโ€™s a high-risk gameplay thatโ€™s probably not great to start with if youโ€™re a beginner.

Sorcerer

We have a pure Intelligence-based class here; it’s modeled after the Witch of the original Path of Exile. Sorcerers, as expected, are glass cannon classes; they prefer not to be surrounded. They donโ€™t really have easy access to the melee-based defense Skills of other classes like the Monk.

However, if you want a class that turns the whole screen into a light show with its plethora of lightning, fire, and ice effects, then the Sorcerer is the way to go. The over-reliance on Energy Shield is also almost mandatory here.

Warrior

Thereโ€™s really no other interpretation for this class. The Warrior is a melee bruiser who likes to get into the thick of the fight with the biggest weapon and the heaviest armor. To that end, itโ€™s somewhat similar to the Marauder class in the first Path of Exile.

For many, this is probably the recommended class since itโ€™s simple to play and pretty straightforward. Just Leam Slam into packs, smash them, and keep smashing if there are enemies still standing. It’s the definitive way to play loot piรฑata.
