With Persona 5: The Royal launching in Japan later this year, Atlus has had no shortage of information to share with eager fans. Atlus has recently been making a habit of providing constant updates about the definitive version of Persona 5 via their “Morgana Report” series. This week we got another one, and it outlines a slew of new features that are coming to the game.

The new trailer goes in-depth on new combat mechanics coming to Persona 5: The Royal including a few new team-up attacks and a revamp of the baton pass system. As seen in the trailer, the new team attacks have an official name, Show Time. These attacks pair up party members in a super stylized, generally silly attack that does massive damage. We’ve seen a few different pair ups so far, with Haru and Morgana, Ryuji and Yusuke, Ann and Morgana, Makoto and Ryuji, and Yusuke and Ann’s team-ups being shown thus far.

As for the baton pass mechanic, Atlus seems to be adding yet another layer to the already interesting system. The original Persona 5’s baton pass system allowed for a certain flow to the gameplay, where you could chain together attacks between party members. Now, these attacks will not only result in more damage but won’t cost the party member anything and will restore HP and SP.

A few new locations were shown off as well, including a cool new hangout spot for The Phantom Thieves. You can see the gang meet up at a location in the new explorable area of Kichijoji. This is only one new area shown off alongside a new jazz bar, a darts minigame, and a shrine. All of these locations can be used to improve the confidant level with your party and external friends, adding yet another layer to the gameplay in Persona 5: The Royal.

Persona 5: The Royal launches on PS4 in Japan on October 31, 2019, and in 2020 for the West. For all your Persona news, be sure to check back to The Nerd Stash!
