Stephen King fans were ecstatic yesterday when the first trailer for the 2019 remake ofย Pet Sematary was dropped by Paramount. Following up last year’s adaptation ofย It, this remake sure has some big shoes to fill (Itย is the highest grossing horror film of all time).
The trailer features extremely eerie shots (some may look familiar, like the disheveled cat and the infamous “Pet Sematary” sign) backed up by the pounding of an unsettling toy drum. “Sometimes dead is better,” statesย the narrator, which happens to be none other than John Lithgow as Jud Crandall. It looks like we are in for some delightful frights with this one.
According to the description of the trailer on YouTube, the 2019ย version ofย Pet Sematary will mirror the events of the original (with some surprises, probably):
Based on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King, Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the familyโs new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall (John Lithgow), setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.
Directed by Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer (known forย Starry Eyes), the film features an all-starย cast and,ย of course, the incredible source material that is Stephen King’s bestsellerย Pet Sematary. King has been on a roll with great adaptationsย of his horror masterpieces, and it looks likeย Pet Semataryย will be no exception to that.
Do you thinkย Pet Semataryย will live up to the hype? Can it dethrone 2018’sย Itย as the highest grossing horror film of all time? Let us know what you think in the comments.
