The Phoenix Force is back and is once again changing the lives of the X-Men. Only this time, it is the original lineup of Cyclops, Beast, Marvel Girl, Angel, and Ice Man taking on the fiery entity. Some preview pages for Marvel’s upcoming Original X-Men series show the original lineup coming face-to-face with the cosmic being. However, it looks like the Phoenix Force is not here to destroy, but rather needs the X-men to help on a mission of epic proportions.
The Phoenix Force’s Mission
Christos Gage and Greg Land are taking the OG X-Men on a new multiverse adventure in Original X-Men. This promises to be a heart-twisting series for the newly minted X-Men with shocking surprises and twists around every corner. Now, previews show that it is kicking off with a visit to none other than the Phoenix Force.
The X-Men find themselves in a reality of the Phoenix Force’s creation. Here, the cosmic entity shows the young recruits a series of realities involving the Phoenix in different stages of her life. Each iteration of the Phoenix is accompanied by a terrible act of violence. It all leads to a request, or so it seems. What could the Phoenix Force possibly need the X-Men to do that it could not do itself?
Fiery Previews
Marvel is opening the first issue of Original X-Men to show fans five interior pages. These show off the Phoenix Force’s incredible power, as well as the meeting between the younger X-Men and the entity. It all kicks off with the Phoenix Force pulling the youngsters straight out of battle and into fire-like environments of psychedelic proportions. The confused mutants are then shown the past lives of the entity as Jean Gray. This includes the green-clad iteration that decimates a fleet of Ultron bots. Another page shows the Dark Phoenix in black easily destroying Thanos.
Finally, the Phoenix Force has a one-on-one conversation with Marvel Girl aka Jean Grey. The two discuss something and it looks like the X-Men are contemplating their options. It would seem this is where the Phoenix asks for some aid in a mission that could change the X-Men’s lives forever.
