Sony has announced the six games that Playstation Plus subscribers can download for free for the month of May 2015. These will be available to them on May 5th, when the Playstation Store is scheduled to refresh.

  • The Unfinished Swan by Giant Sparrow

This is a game about exploring the unknown.

You play as a young boy chasing after a swan who has wandered off into a surreal, unfinished kingdom. The game begins in a completely white space, where players can throw paint to splatter their surroundings and reveal the world around them.

“… Beautiful and curious.” – The Escapist

“A world where seemingly anything can happen.” – Shacknews

The Unfinished Swan was released on October 23, 2012.

May 2015 free download for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

  • Race the Sun by Flippfly

Race The Sun is a high-speed game that uses simple controls and is set in a procedurally generated world. The goal is to get the highest possible score by racing into the sunset, avoiding obstacles and enemies, and collecting speed boosts and other power-ups to help you along the way. You fly a solar-powered craft, and the game ends at sundown, if you can make it that far!

“The game is nerve-wracking and oddly relaxing at the same time.”
– Tuong Nguyen (Cnet.com)

Race the Sun was released on August 19, 2013 for Microsoft Windows, OS X and Linux platforms, and on October 21, 2014 for Playstation 3, 4, and Vita.

May 2015 free download for the Playstation 4, Playstation 3, and Playstation Vita.

  • Hohokum by Richard Hogg & Honeyslug

Hohokum is a whimsical colorful game with an emphasis on playful exploration and creativity.

Players take on the role of a curious flying Technicolor kite-like being. Along their travels through the vibrant world, players will be able to uncover secrets by interacting with elements around them in different ways, such as carrying characters to new areas on their back or flying over objects to illuminate them. The world of Hohokum is full of surprise; even running into certain objects can be its own reward as the interaction produces a tune or sounds that add to the level’s music track. From the way a player navigates the world to the various ways characters communicate to the abstract vivid artwork, Hohokum is an expressive and mesmerizing universe. While there are goals, secrets and trophies discovered along the way, at its heart, the game is a playground — a place to wander about and get lost in.

“This genuinely feels like an adventure into the unknown, which is an achievement nowadays…” – The Guardian

Hohokum was released for Playstation 4, Playstation 3, and Playstation Vita in August 2014.

May 2015 free download for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and the PlayStation Vita.

  • Ether One by White Paper Games

Ether One is a first-person adventure that deals with the fragility of the human mind.

There are two paths in the world you can choose from. At its core is a story exploration path free from puzzles, where you can unfold the story at your own pace. There is also a deeper, more adventurous path in which you can complete complex puzzles to restore life-changing events of the patient’s history in order to help the validation of their life.

The choice is left to you.

“It’s very Dickensian.” – Killscreen

“Don’t be surprised if you find yourself writing emails to people you’ve lost touch with afterward. This is one of those stories that makes you care all the more about the things you have in the real world.” – The Mary Sue

Ether One was released for PC on March 25, 2014.

May 2015 free download for the PlayStation 4.

  • Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition by DrinkBox Studios

Carlos Calaca has kidnapped El Presidente’s Daughter, and he plans to sacrifice her in order to merge the World of the Living with the World of the Dead.

Juan Aguacate, an agave farmer who stumbles upon a Legendary Luchador mask, must find the strength and courage to become the Hero he’s always dreamed of being and put a stop to this.

Guacamelee! is a Metroidvania-style action-platformer set in a magical world inspired by traditional Mexican culture and folklore. The game features melee combat, parallel dimensions and same-screen co-op. The Super Turbo Championship Edition adds new levels, powers, challenges and refinements to the sprawling, ridiculous, Mexican-inspired adventure of the original.

“Guacamelee! is brilliant and immensely fun. It’s also diabolically difficult at times, which makes it all the more rewarding.” – Forbes

This enhanced edition was released for Wii U, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 in July 2014.

May 2015 free download for the PlayStation 4.

  • Murusaki Baby by Ovosonico

Where is mommy?

Murasaki Baby tells the story of a little girl who wakes up in a weird world, populated by children’s fantasies and fears. Holding a purple, heart-shaped balloon in her hand, she feels lost, homesick and vulnerable. She wants her mommy.

“Murasaki Baby offers a weird and wonderful little journey with Baby, solving puzzles and saving balloons. The combination of the unique art style and gameplay set this game apart, and make for a memorable experience.” – Spike TV

“Bearing more than a passing resemblance to Burton’s The Melancholy Death Of Oyster Boy, Murasaki Baby follows a mildly terrifying little girl as she searches in all the wrong places for her mother. Her journey regularly taps into the deep well of joy, anxiety, fear, and ecstasy of that simple, childish outlook Burton describes.” – A. V. Club

(‘Things that I grew up with stay with me. You start a certain way, and then you spend your whole life trying to find a certain simplicity that you had. It’s less about staying in childhood than keeping a certain spirit of seeing things in a different way.’ – Tim Burton)

Murusaki Baby released for Playstation Vita in September 2014.

May 2015 free download for the PlayStation Vita.

By the way, if you’re yet to download the free games of April 2015, you’d best do it right away.
