[July 16 Update — Added some additional context and information]

Police officers already don’t have the best reputation among many people, and after watching this video, your opinion might dip even further. A man with a “New Hampshire number plate” simply asked an officer based in Amherst, Massachusetts for a complaint form to report alleged misconduct. Instead of providing the form, the officer immediately became evasive. He told the man he would print the form, but then pressed him to reveal which officer the complaint was about. The man refused, saying the officer had no need to know unless he was part of the investigation team. The cop replied that he could be part of it if the chief assigned him. The New Hampshire resident found this reasoning flimsy and continued to ask for the form without giving more information.

The officer continued to stall, asking for details about the misconduct and trying to get the man to name the officer. Soon, a second officer entered the room and handed over a card containing an email address. The man found this odd and asked again if the department had an actual complaint form. The first officer repeated that they would print one for him.

Then, the second officer began acting sarcastic, asking the man if he needed medical attention. He claimed the man must be ill since he was shaking and “talking in circles.” This comment was seen by the man as condescending and possibly threatening.

Eventually, the officers finally directed him to where the complaint forms actually were, sitting on a nearby desk the entire time. This revealed that the first officer had been lying when he said the form needed to be printed.

The man eventually left the building, but not before a final confrontation. He told the officers he believed they had intentionally tried to block his attempt to report misconduct. He also accused the second officer of possibly trying to intimidate him by mentioning medical help and questioned whether the officer had recorded his license plate after he returned to his car.

It’s worth noting that during this final confrontation, you can see that the police station is based in Amherst, Massachusetts thanks to the signage outside of the building. Meanwhile, the police officer also declares, “Someone came in in a green Chevrolet pickup truck bearing New Hampshire plate.”

The officer claimed he was documenting the plate number for an incident report. The video ended with the man continuing to confront the second officer over what he viewed as an attempt to silence and intimidate him.

Many Reddit users sided with the New Hampshire man, agreeing that the officers appeared to be dishonest and intentionally evasive about providing the complaint form. One user summed it up by saying, “This is what you call a runaround.” Others suggested bypassing the in-person process altogether by downloading the form online and contacting a local representative for further support.
