The Black Panther will be the next Marvel hero to get a standalone movie. The film will be released in February of next year. The movie was given its first poster prior to the release of the first teaser trailer. The footage from the trailer will be able to be seen first during the NBA finals tonight at 6 p.m. PT. Check out the poster below.

As seen in the image above, one sees that Chadwick Boseman’s character, T’Challa, wasn’t kidding when he said that he was now the king of Wakanda after the murder of his father in Captain America: Civil War. Marvel seems to be continuing where T’Challa left off in Civil War, which will lead him to back to his country to lead his people in Black Panther. Being one of the last heroes to be introduced before Avengers: Infinity War, fans can expect this movie to be important in regards to how the events of the latter film begin to unfold.

Black Panther will be directed by Ryan Coogler, who’s known for his films Creed and Fruitvale Station. Both of these films received praise from fans and critics, making Ryan Coogler an excellent choice to direct Black Panther. Marvel always seems to pick winners when it comes to their ever-expanding universe. Michael B. Jordan will play the villain, Killmonger. Lupita Nyong’o, who won an Oscar for her performance in 12 Years a Slave, and The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira (who plays Michonne on the show) will also be joining the cast for Black Panther. Andy Serkis will reprise his role as Ulysses Klaue from Age of Ultron.

There’s a lot to be excited about in this film. As mentioned before, it’s the last Marvel film before the first part of Infinity War. The movie also includes a very diverse cast and crew, which is always a great thing. I particularly like Black Panther as a character, so I’m excited to see where the film will take him in regards to the comics. Will we see him interacting with the Inhumans (which is set to come to IMAX on September 1, then ABC shortly after)? How will he join forces with the rest of the Avengers? These are questions we’ll have to wait to have answered in the film.
