Title: Preacher: Mumbai Sky Tower

Network: AMC

Air Date: June 26th, 2017

Genre: Black Comedy, Horror

The second episode of Preacher just aired and it involves the Terminator. Ok…no, not really but it is a funny explanation from Cassidy regarding the Saint of Killers. Picking up immediately where the premiere episode left off, Jesse comes essentially face to face with the Saint of Killers. One thing that’s clear, Genesis does not work on the Saint. Furthermore, he’s impervious to bullets. The opening was again absurd and violent. The Gun Aficionados were no match for the Saint and Jesse should have brought some quarters. Tonight’s episode is actually when we see some emotion from The Saint of Killers as well. He appears full of hate and rage. Even more so when Jesse escapes. So…what are Jesse, Cassidy, and Tulip going to do now? Well…of course, they’re going to check out the Ganesh at the Mumbai Sky Tower who puts on “a performance to remember.”

For those unaware, in the comics, Fiore and DeBlanc were banished to earth but ultimatelyย ended up opening a casino. While DeBlanc is still absent due to being shot by the Saint of Killers, Fiore winds up in a casino with a persona known as “Ganesh.” It’s a subtle callback to the comics but the way it plays out on screen is hilarious. As an Angel who can’t die, how could you go wrong with putting on a magic show where you’re executedย each night? Not only that but the makeup is a stitch. I couldn’t help but laugh when Fiore first walked out with all the makeup. Despite all that, there’s a deep sadness from within regarding Fiore. One that Cassidy needs to help correct to get the Saint of their backs.

Now…don’t get me wrong. The whole premise around Fiore is hilarious but….at the same time, it is quite sad. Here’s a guy that has spent, God knows how much time (Pun intended) on earth with his best friend. Yet, now he’s alone. It’s just like an old couple that hasย been married for 40 + years, all they know is each other. Then you’ll read a story about one passing away, followed quickly by the other. In this case, however, Fiore can’t die. So, how does he deal with that pain? Well, he’s simply killed in a new way every night. With the hope that maybe it’ll stick and he’ll be with DeBlanc again. After all…where do dead Angels go?

One thing to note is that Fiore also mentioned Arseface. Ian Coletti is still in the credits as well so…when might he be making a return. Furthermore, is he going to return as a villain to the Preacher? Eugene (Arseface) did seem to be a good hearted kid but after being banished to hell by Jesse, one would think it might rub you the wrong way. Jesse also found out how the Saint has been finding him. The use of Genesis. As Jesse continue on to New Orleans because of his theory with God and Jazz, he’ll believe the Saint is ย no longer following him because of Cassidy. This sets up for trouble down the line.

Preacher did keep up with it’s over the top comedy when it came to Fiore and Cassidy. At first, I really expected a type of unique torture scene. As it turns out, that was not the case and a drug induced playtime came about. Cassidy realized that Fiore just needed someone to talk too and used drugs to make him enjoy himself and loosen up. Cassidy’s reason for all of this was to make up to Jesse that he got Tammy killed back in the strip club. While it initially seems like Fiore has been turned into calling off the Saint of Killers, he changes his mind in the end. I wonder how this will affect Cassidy down the line? He said he wouldn’t let Preacher down again but in a way, that’s exactly how it’ll appear.

Tulips mysterious past comes into play with the introduction of Gary. Apparently, someone named Victor has business with Tulip and it doesn’t appear to be a friendly relationship. With the emergence of Gary, Tulip has changed her mind about marrying Jesse…why? How deep does her backstory go that she’s concerned about how it may affect Jesse?

Did you catch tonight’s episode of Preacher? If so, what did you think? Are you happy to see such a drastic change from season one to season two? Be sure to let us know in the comments below. Also be sure to check out our latest review of Fear the Walking Dead, also airing on AMC.

Verdict: Preacher returned with its second episode tonight…keeping on par with the absurdity, hilarity, and violence from the first episode. The writing on the show continues to stand out and compelling stories continue to unfold. The worst part about tonight’s episode is that it had to end.ย
