The prince opened up about the situation during an interview. He also had plenty to say about his relationship with the royal family. In a newly released clip from the interview, Harry calls out the royals for staying silent on the media assault.
In the clip of Prince Harry’s interview, he’s seen telling ITV that he believes his fight against the tabloids has contributed to the rift between him and the royal family. Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have been said to be feuding with the royals for years. Now, Harry is exposing his feelings about the monarchy not having his back in the situation.
Prince Harry Claims Tabloids Have Contributed to His Rift with the Royal Family
“To what extent do you think your determination to fight the tabloids destroyed the relationship with your family?” ITV’s Rebecca Barry asked Harry.
“I think that’s certainly a central piece to it,” Prince Harry replied. “That’s a hard question to answer because anything I say about my family because anything I say about my family results in a torrent of abuse from the press.
I’ve made it very clear that this is something that needs to be done. It would be nice if we did it as a family,” he continued. “I believe that, again, from a service standpoint and when you’re in a public role, that these are the things that we should be doing for the greater good. But I’m doing this for my reasons.”
According to People Magazine, the royals have stayed quiet about issues with the tabloids for years. Sources tell the outlet that the monarchy often has a very specific outlook on the press. They’re allegedly told to not comment and ignore stories even if they are “untrue.”
In addition, Harry’s older brother, Prince William, reportedly received a “large sum of money” in a settlement from News Group Newspapers in 2020 after claims of a “secret agreement” with the royal family, per Associated Press.
It appears that Prince Harry and the royal family are on opposite sides yet again when it comes to their stance on the tabloids. Sadly, the opposing views may make it that much harder to move past the feud. However, fans continue to be hopeful that the family will eventually make amends.
