As a member of the British royal family, there is a keen interest in Princess Beatrice’s life. She is also one of the more well-liked royals, and this could be, in part, because the interviews she has given to the media seem to portray her in a positive and relatable way.

This is certainly true of her most recent personal essay, which she penned for British Vogue to raise awareness for women’s health and preterm birth. In her writings, the Princess addressed the difficulties of her second pregnancy (she gave birth to her daughter, Sienna Elizabeth, in September 2021 and a second daughter, Athena, in January 2025) and her fears that Athena would be healthy. She shared how her child needed “close monitoring” in the scans and how she and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, were informed that she would arrive early.

Princess Beatrice Opens Up About Her Pregnancy Experience And Her Fears

🍼🎉 Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday, 22nd January, at 12:57pm.

The baby was born weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces.

“What I learnt in this process has been humbling: understanding so much more about our remarkable human bodies, but also, more than anything, what we don’t know,” she wrote. “In many ways, for the longest time, women’s health has been left off the agenda. You can try and plan as much as possible with pregnancy, but sometimes your body – or your baby – has other ideas, which in some cases can lead to a preterm birth.”

Beatrice went on to discuss the advances in technology and how access to modern medical equipment has allowed for a greater understanding of pregnancy complications, including for children who are born preterm. Her experience also compelled her to want to find answers for women who may find themselves in similar situations, facing the unknown and understanding they have so little control. “I want to do all I can to reassure those families whose babies might arrive early that they are not alone,” she wrote.

However, the part of the essay that drives home how Princess Beatrice is like every other pregnant woman in some way is that “so many elements of pregnancy are universal.” She notes how, despite her privileges, she shares the joys and fears of pregnancy (and its potential complications) with millions of women around the globe.

Fans of the Princess may recall the announcement about her daughter’s birth earlier this year. “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday, 22nd January, at 12:57pm,” the official X account for The Royal Family stated. “The baby was born weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces.”

At the time, fans’ reactions were a mixture of congratulations and concern for Athena’s small size. And now, Princess Beatrice has been open about her emotions during this time.
