In the boundless, imaginary realm of “what ifs,” many observing The Royal Family might ask themselves, “How would Princess Diana handle Prince William and Prince Harry‘s feud if she were alive?” Also referred to as the “People’s Princess,” the late Princess of Wales died tragically in a car accident in 1997. Skip forward to the current year, and the feud between Harry and William has never been more intense. But “if Diana was here, they would be different because she wouldn’t stand for this nonsense,” claims Paul Burrell, Diana’s former butler.
Per OK Magazine, Burrell believes that “there’s no way back for Harry or Meghan” as “there’s nobody here [in the UK] that can sort it out.” King Charles is dealing with his poor health condition and treatment, while his heir, Prince William, is very busy with royal duties, all the while caring for his wife, Kate Middleton. Both the King and Kate are battling cancer, leaving very little room for concern for Prince Harry and his appeal to return to the royal fold.
However, Prince William has already laid down the law concerning his dealings with Prince Harry, banning his presence from The Royal Family to ensure no more harm comes to the palace. The Duke of Sussex has no one but himself to blame, as he’s given the cold shoulder by those he turned his back on after writing Spare and making the USA his new home.
Diana’s former butler isn’t the only one who believes that Princess Diana might have been able to prevent the rivalry between her sons. Users on Reddit’s r/HistoryWhatIf and r/AskReddit generally agree that William and Harry “would have a more stable upbringing,” possibly resulting in “Harry never splitting from the family.” Other comments state, “Maybe there’d no rift,” and Diana “would not tolerate” such a split in her family.
While Prince Harry “might be holding out hope for when William becomes King,” Burrell says that the Duke of Sussex “has made his bed, and he’s got to lie in it.”
“I’m not against Harry, ‘Diana’s son.’ I’m against Harry, who has come up against his brother, a member of the royal family โ two different things here. Of course, he is Diana’s son, and I acknowledge that, and I wish things were different.”
