A town hall rally in Georgia took a dramatic turn when a protester interrupted the gathering and had to be escorted off the premises, but not before she was tased for her actions.
Georgia rep Marjorie Taylor Greene was speaking to voters about President Donald Trump’s agenda for the country in a congressional town hall. In the video that surfaced online, she could be heard saying, “They are not just living at the border, ladies and gentlemen, they’re all inside the interior of the United States.”
However, before the rep could expand further on what or who she was referring to, she was interrupted by a female protester who stormed into the audience and called Greene a “butch-body bigot.” She could be seen yelling incoherent words and waving her arms frantically in the air.
Greene’s attention was now focused on the protester, who was escorted by someone who appeared to be security personnel. “You can head out. The protest is outside, thank you very much. The protest is outside. Bye. Have fun out there,” the Georgia rep said to the protester.
According to the individual who posted the video on Reddit, the protester was escorted off the premises and tased for interrupting the gathering. This prompted several responses from social media users who called Greene out for taking her actions too far.
“Tasering a protester? America you’re scaring the sh*t out of me,” one user commented. “Oh we’ve been doing much worse to protesters for a long time. This is not a good place,” another responded.
A similar comment read, “Tazed for using your 1st amendment right to speak freely.. What has this country become?”
Other users commented that protesters have faced much worse actions in the country. One remarked, “Tasering is kinda light work. We’ve repeatedly let people get away with running over or shooting down protesters.”
Another individual referred to the incident as “undeniably horrifying,” but also added that getting tased was “less painful than hearing MTG [Greene] speak.”
The Georgia rep is no stranger to scandal, as she has often had other questionable incidents with citizens. Last month, she made racist comments at a reporter when the questions thrown her way at a press conference made her uncomfortable.
The U.K. reporter had asked Greene to speak about the Singalgate incident involving leaked war plans. Offended by the questions, the U.S. rep yelled:
“OK, we don’t give a crap about your opinion and your reporting. Why don’t you go back to your country where you have a major migrant problem? You should care about your own borders… Do you care about your own country? What about all the women that are raped by migrants?”
Greene further shut the reporter down and asked for an American journalist, effectively ending any more questions from the U.K. reporter.
