King Charles adopts Cannabis as part of his efforts to try alternative medicine in his daunting battle against cancer. Since going public with his cancer diagnosis last year, there has been an overhanging tension as the world fears the end draws closer for the monarch with each passing day. Despite the prognosis and speculations, the monarch has continued to fight the condition bravely, while remaining committed to his duties as the King of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.

His quest to beat cancer has seen the 76-year-old restructure his schedule, undertake chemotherapy sessions, and turn to alternative medicine as well. A Buckingham Palace insider recently discussed King Charles’ dive into alternative medicine, revealing the monarch has even tried out cannabis, a known psychedelic plant deemed illegal in many parts of the world. The palace source claimed,

“Charles is trying every cure in the book, and now some which aren’t! The cancer diagnosis has rocked him to the core he feels there’s no harm in trying something experimental. He has always been a champion of homeopathic medicines and cures and sees there is no danger in trying the cannabis route. He’s read all the studies around its benefits and is giving it a go.”

The Palace insider went on to explain the motivation behind King Charles’ cannabis usage amid his cancer battle. According to the source, the monarch desired to make it to his 77th birthday at all costs, but feared he may not due to his failing health which has left him in so much pain. Cannabis, which supposedly has medicinal benefits with prospects of alleviating pain and potentially treating cancer seems like a ray of hope for King Charles. The insider divulged,

“Bob Marley knew all about the supposed medicinal benefits of weed and Charles is now very much an expert on the subject!”

King Charles seemingly reflected his love for cannabis in his recently released Apple playlist in honor of Commonwealth Day. In celebration of the remarkable day, the monarch dropped a collection of his favored songs from across the world in The King’s Music Room. Interestingly, the list included tracks from legendary reggae icon Bob Marley, an infamous stoner.

Royal Fans React to the Monarch’s Marijuana Use

The revelation of King Charles’ Cannabis use to battle cancer has stirred wild reactions across the internet given the controversial views on the psychedelic plant, known to have legal consequences. Many pointed out the supposed hypocrisy or double standards in the law, which supposedly allows certain individuals to own and use weed, while others face the brunt of the law for possession. Reacting to the shocking revelation, X user @CabbaVesting wrote,

“How is this still illegal in America? It obviously has medical benefits and people like to use it recreationally just like alcohol.”

Another netizen tweeted,

“It’s all about the money, and the absence of donations is more important than the actual benefit for society. This is where our government fails us on every level.”

A third user condemned the portrayal of Cannabis as a medicinal plant with immense benefits in reports of King Charles’ usage, completely ignoring its mind-bending potentials and psychoactive effects which led to its legal prohibition in the first place. Highlighting an excerpt from an article on the monarch’s weed usage for medicinal purposes, the netizen wrote,

“The way this reads, you’d think marijuana was a widely accepted, safe plant with medicinal value.”

Psychedelic Drug Use By Royals and Cannabis Legalization

King Charles isn’t the only royal embroiled in a frenzy surrounding cannabis use. His younger son Prince Harry is neck-deep in a legal scuffle over his US immigration records following his admission to the use of marijuana and other drugs at a point in his life in his memoir, Spare. The far-right group, Heritage Foundation sued the Department of Homeland Security last year, demanding the public release of Harry’s visa application records to confirm whether he lied about his drug use or not. If confirmed that he lied, the exiled UK prince may face possible deportation from the United States, since the visa application should have been denied in the first place given his drug history.

This comes amid the prevailing calls for the legalization of cannabis in many parts of the world. So far, this movement has gained traction in many regions, with up to 39 of the US’s 50 states approving it for medicinal use, while 24 states, including California where Harry resides, have legalized its recreational use. Meanwhile, the controversial plant remains widely illegal in the UK for recreational use, but permissible under prescription by a registered medical expert for medicinal use since 2018. Regardless, possession of the plant, for any use whatsoever remains illegal per Nhs.uk. For many, a nod from the British monarch is the much-awaited greenlight to keep up this fight, and a promising step towards the national/global legalization of Cannabis.
