Rebel Wilson considers motherhood the highlight of her many achievements, recounting the role it played in her weight loss. The actress first shot into the spotlight with the release of her comedy blockbuster, Bridesmaids, in 2011. She went on to star in various hits including the musical Pitch Perfect, becoming a highly sought-after actress in Hollywood, with her weight as her selling point.
After riding on the waves of her success as the “fat funny girl” for years, Rebel made the decision to become healthier, despite her agency pushing against it. To commence her weight loss journey, Rebel Wilson declared 2020 as her “year of health.” After months of dieting, exercising, and other weight loss options, she successfully shed 80 pounds, becoming the healthiest she’s ever been.
Although Rebel documented this weight transformation for her social media fans, it was hardly her first attempt to shed the pounds. In her memoir, Rebel Rising, released in April 2024, the actress admitted she struggled with weight loss for years, constantly beating herself up for her inability to cut down on emotional eating. However, one experience eventually changed her life for good, setting her on the right track.
Rebel Wilson Lost Weight to Avoid Missing Out on Motherhood
During a sit-down with US Weekly to discuss her memoir, Rebel Wilson went candid about her weight challenges, motherhood, and the ultimate encounter that triggered her weight loss. She admitted to developing a whole new perspective on food after a fertility doctor warned that her weight could decrease her chances of becoming a mom. That did it for Rebel, making her more determined than ever to attain a healthy weight. She recalled,
“He was like, โWell, youโd have a much better chance of having a child if you were healthy.โ It kind of really hit a nerve, that [it] could prevent me from having a child. I did have to go through this whole health journey in order to get my daughter, Royce.”
She considered this encounter the biggest experience that triggered her weight loss journey. Having finally attained healthy shape, Rebel Wilson went on to welcome daughter Royce Lilian with fiancรฉe Ramona Agruma in November 2022. The entire experience helped the actress better appreciate all the moms out there, especially her mother, who thrived as a single mom of four.
