The first two DLCs for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard were announced just shortly after the game’s January 24th release, though both expansions were exclusive to the PlayStation 4 until last week. Now Capcom has announced a third DLC entitled “Not a Hero”, which will feature series veteran, Chris Redfield.

The official Resident Evil Twitter account broke the news of the DLC saying, “Chris Redfield returns in the free “Not a Hero” DLC for #RE7 this Spring. Who or what is he chasing? Find out soon in this separate story.”

(Note: There are spoilers ahead if you have not finished RE7).

Series veteran Chris Redfield makes an appearance in Resident Evil 7

Resident Evil fans who have already finished the latest installment in the franchise are well-aware that Chris’s appearance is teased at the end of the game. He shows up in the black helicopter and drops a gun to Ethan during the final fight. Chris only identified himself by saying “I’m Redfield”, and the helicopter bore the logo of the Umbrella Corporation- a logo that was blue and white, instead of the traditional red and white. Before Capcom’s confirmation Tweet, however, Chris’s appearance was one that left fans skeptical about whether it was really the same Chris Redfield we have come to know over the last twenty years.

For any newcomers to the franchise, the extremely abbreviated version is that Umbrella Corporation was responsible for the T-virus which subsequently led to the outbreak that destroyed Raccoon City and various other cities around the world. Chris’s potential affiliation with Umbrella is odd, considering his former status as a member of Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S) and the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (B.S.A.A). It’s also odd, because Umbrella hasn’t physically existed in the Resident Evil universe for quite a while now.

“Not a Hero” has a lot of explaining to do when it releases

Not much else is revealed about Chris’s return, except that he will be the central figure of the DLC when it releases. With Chris at the helm of the story, along with Umbrella Corporation’s apparent resurgence, it looks like RE7 will be tying more neatly into the wider universe of the franchise than we initially thought, as most of the campaign made it feel like a standalone story in the beginning.

Unfortunately, we won’t know what brought Chris to the Baker home until “Not a Hero” releases sometime this Spring. The DLC will be available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
