Capcom’s Resident Evil is inarguably one of the most famous gaming franchises. The Resident Evil franchise has played a huge part in introducing the niche horror games genre to a wider audience. Unfortunately, Resident Evil has not seen so much success in its recent film or TV series adaptation. In a new report, Deadline revealed that Netflix canceled the Resident Evil show after its first season.

The Resident Evil TV adaptation, titled “Resident Evil,” follows two timelines – 2022 and 2036. The first timeline shows that the Umbrella Corporation has founded a New Raccoon City, where Albert Wesker and his twin daughters, Billie and Jade, move to. The second storyline unveils that people and animals are infected with the T-virus, gobbling up most of humanity.

This adaptation wasn’t received well among the fans, as the Resident Evil show has some of the worst reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, with fans going as far as calling it the “worst show on Netflix ever made.” This isn’t the first Resident Evil adaptation to receive poor reviews. A movie based on the horror franchise titled “Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City,” also released on Netflix, had a 30% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

On the other hand, the Resident Evil games continue to thrive. Resident Evil: Village won multiple rewards, while the Resident Evil 2 Remake alone sold over 10 million copies. For whatever reason, Capcom has been struggling to translate the beautiful storytelling in their games to the entertainment project based on the Resident Evil franchise.

Despite Resident Evil being canceled, Netflix will continue to make more gaming-related films and TV shows. They have a Horizon Zero Dawn TV series and Bioshock movie still in the works. If you’re a Resident Evil fan, what do you think about Netflix’s decision to cancel the show? Let us know in the comments below.
