It’s been about a year since NBC abruptly cancelled Revolution, and that decision left the show on a cliffhanger as season 2 closed some storylines whilst also opening up several more. But now, fans of the post apocalyptic drama will be able to get some closure, as the creators of the show have teamed up with DC Comics in order to produce a four part digital comic run that will round up all of the storylines that weren’t concluded in the show.

After the show was cancelled – to the shock of fans worldwide – many took to Twitter in order to vent their frustration, even going so far as to get #RelocateRevolution trending on the social media site. However, months went by without fans hearing anything from series creators and producers Eric Kripke, J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk, Rockne S. O’Bannon and Jon Favreau. Fans also set up a petition to have the show brought back; after a couple of months it ended up garnering almost 90,000 signatures.

That all changed when Eric Kripke released a letter – seen below – announcing that the characters would be coming back for a four part digital comic, with art and illustration done by DC Comics artist Angel Hernandez. He also announced that all the writers from Revolution have come together to write the comic and wrap up the storyline the way they wanted to. He also addressed why Revolution won’t be coming back for a new season.

Naturally, the announcement has brought delight to fans around the world.

I’m just SO excited! @DCComics to finish #Revolution in a #RevolutionComic! #RelocateRevolution

Below, you’ll find the full letter that Eric Kripke released when he announced the digital comic. The digital comic will be released in four installments, with the first being released on Monday, May 4. The rest of the comic will be released every two weeks after that, with the last being released on Monday, June 15.

“Dear Revolutionaries, Patriots, and Soldiers of the Monroe Militia,

“So first of all—thank you. Seriously. Sincerely. The loyalty you’ve shown REVOLUTION these past months has been touching and overwhelming—it’s meant more to me than you’ll ever know. And in case you were wondering—yes, we’ve been listening. We’ve read the tweets. We’ve seen the incredible petition. We’ve followed #RelocateRevolution. Please know that you’ve been heard.

“And solely because of your efforts, we wanted to pay you back—to give you something fantastic. And while, unfortunately, we simply can’t make more episodes of the show (alas, there are financial realities we can’t overcome), we can do the next best thing. Which is end the story. On our terms. Exactly the way we would have.

“So J.J., Jon and I are pleased and proud to announce the REVOLUTION endgame: a four-issue series coming soon from DC Comics. If you take a look at the attached photo, you’ll see that we brought back the entire writing staff to work on it. The band’s back together! (And if you study the photo closely, you’ll notice a certain young, plucky Matheson who also joined us). Everyone has generously agreed to work for little or no money. They’re doing it, because like you, they’re passionate about this story and want to see it end correctly.

“So stay tuned. We’ve got lots of work to do. We’ll keep you posted—in the coming months, you can expect more details, sneak peeks, and early artwork. But Miles, Monroe, Rachel, Charlie, Aaron, Neville and the rest will return for the epic finale to the REVOLUTION storyline. We hope you’re as excited as we are.

“And again—thank you. This is because of you. This is for you.

Much love,
Kripke.”
