Playstation VR’s release date is just around the corner! As Playstation’s Virtual Reality headset will release on October 13, 2016. The headset will be accompanied by 30 launch title games available for purchase on day one.

While most launch titles are VR exclusive, Thumper  not only works without the headset, for PC and PS4 platforms, but also released before it. Two man development team Drool announced the release of the rhythmic violence game alongside the game’s release trailer, three days before its intended release.

At first look Thumper draws comparisons to the structure of Guitar Hero’s individual strings in regards to the on rails, timed actions required for gameplay. But the trailer reveals that the upcoming rhythmic thriller is far more complex.

Featuring stunning visuals and pulsating symphonic environments, it is revealed a few seconds into the trailer that the gameplay won’t be whittled down to pressing the correct button or prompt in cadence with the rhythm. It’s impossible to tell without having played, but the simple visual intricacy shown in the trailer makes for interesting gameplay possibilities.

Thumper arrived on Steam and the PlayStation Store in North America earlier today at 3 PM PT/6 PM ET. In regards to the PC version, Drool stated that support for both the Oculus Rift and Vive is coming “later this year.”

Drool revealed that PS4 Pro will be supported by the game right from the hardwares launch. While the resolution offered is the highest possible by VR, the Pro version will offer users a higher render quality, alongside the standard 90 FPS frame rate.

With 25 awards and nomination even before its release, Thumper has created a buzz in the PS4 and Playstation communities with it’s unique premise and beautiful style. It certainly seems like Drool has created a game that has the potential to be this generation’s Guitar Hero, but only time will tell.

Will Thumper be the basis in which you finally cave and buy VR? Are you excited for any other upcoming Playstation VR releases? Be sure to let us know in the comment section below!
