Like all rumors, this needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, but according to an anonymous user on Pastebinย who claims to be working on an AAA game for the PlayStation 5 launch, the console will launch in 2020 with the above price entry point. The user says this would be a $100 loss per console sold by Sony.
The PlayStation 4 launched in 2013 at an initial cost of $399, some $50 less than the rumored PS5 launch pricing. Although, I’m sure Sony will be paying close attention to prices after the somewhat underwhelming launch of the PlayStation 3, which launched at $499 for the 20GB model and a whopping $599 for the 60GB one. It was a mistake they didn’t make for the PS4.
The poster does go on to give a lot more details on the PlayStation 5, all of which he claims are 99% true. They claim:
- A release date of 2020, either March or November.
- Backwards compatibility with new games on PSN and physical
- A 2TB built-in hard drive and 8K upscaling
- A new PSVR at a cost of $250
- Dualshock 5 to include a built-in camera
There is a fair amount of information in the post including some detail on specs and a PS plus premium model. It also details apparent launch games that include Gran Turismo 7, The Last of us 2 Remasterย andย Grand Theft Auto 6.ย The latter being a rumored holiday 2020 release as opposed to day 1.
