Ryan Reynolds Stars In Four Films Dominating Disney+’s Top Ten

It’s a full charm offensive

Love him or hate him, Ryan Reynolds makes a lot of movies. He’s one of the most recognizable stars in the Hollywood ecosystem. While most people may know him for Deadpool and his other action movies, he’s tried out most available genres. I’d argue his career used to be a lot more varied before he stepped into the Marvel universe. If you check Disney+’s worldwide top ten, you’ll see that fans still love his whole filmography.

Ryan Reynolds Took Over Disney+

You know what the #1 movie on Disney+ is right now. It’s Deadpool & Wolverine, as it will be for at least a month or two after its streaming release. Ryan Reynolds found a beautiful home in the Deadpool movies. We all fondly remember his first take on the character, which shined through a terrible film until the producers sewed his mouth shut. The original 2016 Deadpool is currently holding down #3 on Disney+, separated from the third entry only by Ratatouille. Both films were instant classics in the overloaded superhero genre. Deadpool & Wolverine represented a new high point for that oversaturation, shoving in so many cameos, callbacks, and references that it struggles to be a movie. For his part, Ryan Reynolds remains a standout in both projects. He delivers a mountain of personality through a mask, but he still manages to be genuine in Wade Wilson’s few sincere moments.

Aside from Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds also gained some Disney+ attention for The Proposal, his 2009 romantic comedy. Like in Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds portrays an immature, unlucky, and good-hearted soul who struggles in an unwilling partnership with a more serious ally. Sandra Bullock stands in for Wolverine, but it’s otherwise very similar. The Proposal currently holds #6 on Disney’s international list, but Reynolds’ Free Guy has the final spot locked down. Free Guy sees Reynolds play a video game NPC who becomes self-aware, using his newfound power to right wrongs across the narrative. These four films have more in common than it might initially appear. Each film puts Ryan Reynolds sense of humor front-and-center in different ways, ensuring a familiar comedic vibe throughout. That’s not to say a fan of one will love the other three, but it’s worth checking them out.

Over the years, Ryan Reynolds has become an old-fashioned movie star. That idea has become outdated in recent times, but Reynolds seems to have a similar larger-than-life appeal. Audiences turn up for franchises and brand names more than they do for specific actors and directors these days. Reynolds is one of the few exceptions that prove the rule. No matter what project that snarky Canadian chooses to enter, he’ll bring a considerable audience along with him.
