Samsung continues to innovate with its foldable series and is now working on its first rollable device. They’ve released many impressive models with flexible displays that have provided users with exciting experiences.
However, one feature has disappointed many: the fingerprint sensor installed in the power button, especially considering the price of the devices.
Thanks to our collaboration with David from @xleaks7, we spotted a Samsung patent that describes a full-screen sensor that will likely be part of an upcoming series of foldable and rollable smartphones.
Each of the first base B1 and the second base B2 may be a rigid substrate or a flexible substrate that can be bent, folded, and/or rolled. When the substrate SUB or each of the first base B1 and the second base B2 is a flexible substrate, it may be made of, but not limited to, polyimide.

The Problem the Patent Aims to Solve
Many smartphone users have already switched to foldable devices, but the user authentication feature has disappointed many of them.
Most users prefer the convenience of on-screen fingerprint sensors found in fixed-screen smartphones. However, in an effort to reduce the thickness of their foldable devices, the tech giant chose to place the fingerprint sensor in the power button.
This new patent aims to challenge the integration of a fingerprint sensor directly into the display panel, covering an entire display and enhancing user experience.
The fingerprint recognition area FPA may be formed in substantially the same area as the display area DA.
For example, the display area DA and the fingerprint recognition area FPA may coincide. In this case, a fingerprint recognition function may be provided in the entire (e.g. substantially the entire) display area DA.

The newly patented flexible display with integrated full-screen fingerprint recognition is a game-changer in the tech world.
We’re excited to see this innovative technology expected to debut in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, along with Samsung’s first rollable smartphone, rumored for release in 2025.
