Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift are continuing to prove they’re the best of friends. The two have always had each other’s backs. So, when news broke that Swift had bought back her masters six years after it was sold to Scooter Braun, Gomez was one of the first celebrities to congratulate her on the feat.
Selena Gomez Congratulates Taylor Swift
On Friday, May 30, Selena Gomez wrote a message supporting Taylor Swift on her Instagram Story. “YES YOU DID THAT TAY!!! SO proud!” she wrote, alongside Swift’s post announcing the big news.
Of course, fans went into a frenzy over the interaction on social media. “Real queens hype each other up,” one person wrote. “I love this friendship so much,” gushed another. “MY MOTHERS!!!” read another comment.

Gomez’s post comes just hours after the “Cruel Summer” singer announced that she had finally regained full ownership of her master recordings, which include her first six albums.
Taylor Swift shared the exciting news with fans in a lengthy letter posted on her official website. She began her message by revealing she had come “close” to owning her masters several times over the years. However, every single time she thought she had won, something happened to make the deal fall through. Thankfully, that’s all in the past, as she has now obtained the rights to her “entire life’s work.” That includes every piece of music she’s ever recorded throughout her career, even her unreleased songs. As part of the deal, Swift is also the owner of all of her music videos, concert films, album art and photography.
The pop star thanked her devoted fanbase, the Swifties, for cheering her on throughout this long journey by showing support for her old work through her re-recorded albums and Eras Tour. “I can’t thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned until now,” she wrote.
Shoutout to Shamrock Capital
She also gave a shoutout to Shamrock Capital for being the one to strike the life-changing deal with her. “I am endlessly thankful,” Swift said. “My first tattoo might just be a huge shamrock in the middle of my forehead.”
The investment firm became the latest owner of Taylor Swift’s masters in 2020. They had bought it from Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings after his company had obtained it from Big Machine Records in 2019. The deal included the rights to Swift’s first six albums: Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation.
Will She Continue Re-Recording Her Albums?
To regain control of her music, Taylor Swift began re-recording her albums, which became known as the Taylor’s Version albums. As of now, she has released four out of six re-recordings. Fans thought she would drop an updated version of Reputation next. However, in her letter, Swift admitted she might not ever release it. She explained that no matter how hard she tried, she felt like she could never outdo the original. While she’s not sure if it’ll ever get a Taylor’s Version, Swift said she’ll still consider dropping the album’s unreleased tracks.
As for her debut album, fans will be happy to hear it’s already been re-recorded. Swift said she’ll try to find the right time to release both her unreleased tracks and her first album. If it happens, “it won’t be from a place of sadness” but “celebration.”
