People deal with grief in different ways. It could especially be hurtful if a community lost a kid. One way communities might react to a child’s death is by having a memorial vigil for them. This was the case at a community in California where they did the exact same thing for a young boy named Elijah. People impacted by his death left dozens of toys at the vigil which is honestly heartwarming. This action turned sour, however, when a pair of Hispanic women pulled up to the vigil not to pay their respects but to do something unexpected. Instead of adding toys to the vigil, the two women decided to steal some of them.
A video filmed by a woman from the community showed her confronting the two women for the horrible act they were committing. She kept asking them how they could do something like this, but there was no answer. Since she was filming them, they decided to film her as if she were the one in the wrong. One of the women then claimed that someone told her it was okay to take the toys. Even if someone told you this, why would you take stuff left for a dead child? Instead of feeling ashamed after the confrontation, they put the toys in their car and drove off. While driving away, they continued filming the woman who confronted them. One of the California pair even had a disgusting smile on her face like she was proud of what they were doing.
People Reacting to the California Pair’s Actions
It’s safe to say that everyone was shocked at what the two California women did. One woman was terrified by what she just saw as she said, “Oh MY GOD who tf steals from a dead kids altar…” Apparently, these two women have no problem doing exactly that. Someone else said, “Stealing from the dead is so bad.” It definitely is. Since the two women were Hispanic, people from the community reacted as well. “I grew up in a Hispanic household, and it is a bad omen to steal from the dead. She just cursed herself,” one person wrote.
Unfortunately, the actions of these two women made someone bring up deportation and MAGA. “This is why MAGA people want Latinos to leave because l*s*rs [losers] like them. so disrespectful they should get arrested,” they wrote. I agree with the arrest part, but we shouldn’t blame an entire community for the actions of two individuals.
Others were shocked at the audacity of the two women to film those who confronted them. “Then they want to record you guys like they not in the wrong,” one woman wrote. Another woman said, “recording like YOU did something.” Some people also recommended that the woman who confronted the two should call the police. “Why didn’t you call the cops press charges,” one person asked. Someone else said, “This is illegal report to the police immediately.” The good thing is that she did inform the police. “It has been reported & sent. Multiple people have actually,” was her response. The absurdity of the entire situation left several people heartbroken. One even wrote, “Even in death, this little boy can’t rest in peace.” I just hope that they will be held accountable.
