Solasta: Crown of the Magister is coming to Steam Early Access on October 20th, 2020. The announcement also dropped with an all-new trailer showing off new effects, spells, and areas in the tactical RPG.

Solasta is based on the Fifth Edition rules for Dungeons and Dragons. It plays similarly to Baldur’s Gate, Pillars of Eternity, and Dragon Age and will feature similar new things to Baldur’s Gate 3. It will be interesting to see the differences between BG3 and Solasta as both are hitting Early Access within one month of each other.

As for the Early Access content, Tactical Adventures says it will include 10 hours of gameplay that covers all of the first act of the game and a bit of the second.

Every ancestry, class and archetype is unlocked during Early Access, with the maximum level capped to 6. We believe that it is very important for players to reach level 5, as many archetypes start shining around this stage: 2nd attack for martial classes, access to powerful AoE spells, stronger cantrips… It is a very different experience from the early levels, and can affect the balance of later encounters drastically.”

The full game should last around 40 hours, baring any side quests, of course, and difficulty, of course. Tactical says they would like to release the complete version six months after Early Access; however, that all depends on the development process.

While it is difficult to pinpoint an exact date โ€“ especially as weโ€™ll be implementing suggestions and changes from the community as we go โ€“ we are still looking for a release in 2021. Ideally weโ€™d like to aim for 6 months, but itโ€™s hard to be 100% certain!”

Solasta

One major difference between BG3 and Solasta comes in the form of lore. D&Dย already has several established worlds that feature different pantheons. Solasta’s world, in contrast, has been created from scratch.

It wasn’t all that long ago when Tactical Adventures revealed their upcoming game would be available to play. In August, the development team promised more news in the coming weeks, and they did not disappoint. Everyone who plays Early Access will be able to discuss bugs or present ideas through Solasta’s discord.
