Things can get quite dark and spooky in Sons of the Forest, especially after nightfall. Luckily, you have several options to stave away the darkness at your base camp, including light bulbs, which you’ll stumble across during your travels on the island map. Needless to say, bulbs require electricity to turn on and emit light. For this endeavor, you’ll need to harness the power of the sun with solar panels in Sons of the Forest.

You’ll find everything you need to get electricity from solar panels in Sons of The Forest once you’ve discovered the cave bunker with a 3D Printer. This location has wire, a solar panel, and a few bulbs to get you started. After you’ve returned to your base, it’s time to connect the three components.

  1. First, place the solar panel on a slanted or upward-facing building block, such as a rooftop. Obviously, a panel placed indoors won’t have contact with the sunshine outside.
  2. Next, Connect your wire to the panel, placing the line toward the target you wish to power — in this case, a lightbulb. Keep in mind that the wire doesn’t hang in games like Satisfactory; you need a building block to stick it to, like a log or wall.
  3. Once everything is set up, you’ll be able to switch on and off your light bulb, adding a cozy light to your home with replenishable energy since the in-game sun isn’t a resource that’ll deplete.

You might notice the “Basic Electricity” portion of your survival guide shows the solar panel being placed at a horizontal angle in Sons of the Forest. Of course, the panel looks more visually organized this way, but the device will work as long as it’s placed on a proper platform and upwardly facing sunlight.
