Sony Learns from Concord, ‘Studios Will Not Close’ Despite Live-Service God of War Cancelation

More expensive lessons

It appears Sony is taking some of its most expensive lessons to heart because now, the multimedia giant has opted to cancel something that could’ve potentially crashed, a live-service God of War game. In fact, Sony actually canceled not just one, but two live-service games it was working on.

The report came from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier. According to Schreier, Sony had two upcoming live-service games, one was from Bend Games (Days Gone) while the other was a live-service God of War title being worked on by Bluepoint Games. Now, those two games are not coming anymore.

Interestingly enough, Bluepoint Games had been working on the live-service God of War game for two years before Sony decided to cancel it. Jason Schreier assured everyone, however, that Sony is not closing down Bluepoint Games despite canceling the project it had been working on. The same supposedly goes for Bend Games.

Still, Schreier also stated that Sony didn’t give any details on what the next projects of the aforementioned studios will be. There were also no details regarding potential layoffs from Sony for the two studios. More information will supposedly be divulged to Bloomberg in the coming weeks or months since Sony is still determining Bend and Bluepoint Games’ next projects.

For those who were unaware of Bluepoint Games’ portfolio, they were responsible for some of Sony’s most successful remasters such as Demon’s Souls, Shadow of the Colossus, and even the first three Uncharted titles. For now, though, it appears Bluepoint’s schedule is vacant.

Sadly, it also seems Sony has been stingy about the details as to why they canceled the two live-service titles. However, given their track record for Concord, their latest and biggest failure in the live-service category, one can assume that Sony is being more cautious.
