Weaponizing 911 calls is nothing new, but one anonymous “Karen” from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, chose to target a hapless kid’s lemonade stand for some reason. Thankfully, the police officers who responded were much more reasonable and empathetic; instead of obliging the Karen caller, the cops actually spent time with the young lemonade entrepreneur. Here’s the favorable outcome to the anonymous Karen’s crashout, posted on the Police Department’s Facebook page:
The incident happened around July 28, specifically in the town of Upper Allen Township. The Upper Allen Township Police Department received a call from an anonymous female complainant who was offended by a child’s lemonade stand. Instead of shooing the kid away and her lemonade stand, the cops bought her drinks instead and befriended her, much to the anonymous Karen’s chagrin, assuming she’s watching begrudgingly from her dimly lit bedroom.
“Thank you to ‘Mrs. Anonymous’ for calling to complain about a kids’ lemonade stand. We responded and enjoyed a refreshing cup while making some new friends! 👮♂️🍋,” according to the Upper Allen Township Police Department
The post and incident have since gone viral, with many people praising the cop for his heartwarming and positive response, especially towards a rather cantankerous complaint. It’s not exactly clear why the anonymous Pennsylvania Karen called or what she saw as wrong about the lemonade stand, but it appears the police didn’t find anything harmful about it. People have thus concluded that the 911 caller was just being miserable.
“Thank you for putting “Mrs. Anonymous” on blast! Maybe next time she won’t make such a stink about it! Way to be, UAPD!” thanks Mark Walker
“You have to be a special kind of miserable to call the police over a little girl selling some lemonade. 🙄,” surmises Chelsea McDaniel
Some people have also praised the girl for choosing to run her own business at such a young age, especially when most other kids her age are busy with social media or phones. Perhaps it was something the Karen caller should’ve considered, as kids selling lemonade and being resourceful can be a rare sight these days.
“I’d rather see kids with lemonade stands than sitting on their tablets and phones! Oh the horror!” argues Emily Rittner
“Who the hell would complain about a lemonade stand?” questions Justin Hertz
A Karen Crashout That Ended Well
More than anything, however, I found it rather refreshing to see a Karen story that doesn’t end with anyone getting hurt or humiliated. We’ve had way too many of those in the past months. Additionally, people found it endearing to see and hear a good cop story, given how many people have had bad experiences with law enforcement.
In other threads, however, a cop has even chimed in on the discussion and swears that Karens calling 911 on lemonade stands or harmless kids are way too common. Even something as innocuous as Girl Scouts selling cookies became targets for 911 complaints. Thankfully, it appears most cops who respond to such calls seem to be reasonable and decent.
“I’m a cop and this happens more frequently than people think. We get people calling us on lemonade stands, Girl/Boy Scouts, charities etc. Some people just hate other people,” testifies Runyc2000
