Man, this rain just won’t let up. Worse, we’re out in the middle of nowhere, soaking wet. Hey, look there, it’s an old mansion. Let’s take shelter in there until the storm lets up. That creepy, decrepit mansion with the eerie glow about it. In a game called Grabbed by the Ghoulies. That sounds like a fantastic idea… for a speedrun! Okay, so maybe that very last bit wasn’t an actual part of the plot, but JAsh went ahead and did a bit of ad-libbing. And we should take notice, because he holds first place records in every single Grabbed by the Ghoulies speedrunning category except for one. Now that’s dedication. Let’s watch the master at work, shall we?

The opening cutscene isn’t skippable in regular play, but it’s still counted in the timer (which, by the way, is measuring in-game time rather than real time). At least the text can be sped through, and rest is told in an animated comic book style that moves along at a quick pace. The gameplay segments between cinematics are plenty interesting to watch, and it’s pretty varied to keep things that way as new threats are introduced at just about every turn.

Grabbed by the Ghoulies is a pretty straightforward experience with some hidden stuff to find as you go, which makes it a great candidate for watching a speedrun. You almost don’t need any of the text to explain what’s going on, and being a linear game means you can take it all in in a shorter amount of time and without having to drop the cash to buy it yourself. So I hope you enjoyed being Grabbed by the Ghoulies as much as we did, and that you escaped with your heart still beating.
