Star Wars Battlefront II has been on a rough ride since launch. In terms of updates, it hasn’t been treated half as well as EA’s first Battlefront reboot. Though thankfully with the last community transition, it’s clear that’s there’s a whole host of updates to expect throughout the Summer as well as beyond that. If you haven’t read about August’s much-needed update, you can do so here. If you have, then it’s on to September.

Star Wars Battlefront II Back to School Party

According to the devs of Star Wars Battlefront II, ‘September is shaping up to be a great month’. And it sounds about right too.

Its been a while since we’ve had Geonosis on our Capital Supremacy and Galactic Assault rotation. And in September, we’ve finally got a much-hyped Clone Wars location; Felucia. According to the transition, Felucia is looking to be one of the best-looking maps that Dice has built to date and are eagerly awaiting us to play it (then why not release it early?). Here’s a lengthy description of the context of the location:

The Separatists’ invasion of Felucia is nearing its end. With only a single, powerful vehicle left to cover the evacuation of a Felucian farming community, the clones struggle to maintain their last line of defence long enough for Republic transports to collect a large cache of valuable medicinal plants from the village.

As the droids advance towards the clones’ position, the squad chooses to go on the offence, destroying the dreadnought responsible for the attack. However, the droids have a plan of their own: Ensure the Republic can’t escape with the plants by bringing down their Venator.

Sound pretty good. And like other Battlefront maps, it sounds like Felucia has plenty of personality with aspects from traditional Felucian farms, a cave of dead Rancor and even the remains the ‘mighty Sarlacc’. But that’s far from the best-looking part of the update.

Star Wars Battlefront II Online Instant Action?

In the form of four players online co-op, with your friends or other random players, you can jump into a ‘large scale PvE adventure’. This means that you and some friends can take on hordes of AI alongside your own swarm of AI. Interestingly, the AI of the game has more depth in terms of what they can do. Though it could be seen as slightly annoying, AI can become Heroes, jump into Vehicles or play as reinforcements. Hopefully, we won’t have to be camping on the menu for Obi-Wan Sounds like a good variety of gameplay. And again, that’s not where it ends.

The Real Instant Action is Back

Finally, after years of waiting, fans officially have what they’ve been waiting for:

We’re happy to announce that Instant Action is making its return to the Battlefront franchise, and we think it’s something a number of you are really going to like.

Dice has seen the comments regarding a single-player experience and have come head-on, albeit a few years late, to answer it. Similar to Capital Supremacy, you have to capture all five command posts to win. Simple, but it’s just like the key part of Battlefront that fans loved back in 2004. Here are the key points that the community transition highlights.

  • Single-player large scale combat experience.
  • Fight to control Command Posts
  • You fight alongside AI.
  • You fight against a team of AI.
  • The enemy team will be made up of regular troopers, reinforcements, heroes, and vehicles.
  • You can spawn on Command Posts using the Contextual Spawn system.
  • Control a majority of the Command Posts until your team score reaches 100%.
  • Able to choose to play as either the light side or dark side.
  • Can be played offline, without the need for an internet connection.

This game mode is available on all Clone Wars map at release.

A Single Clone Commando

September is a really content-heavy month. We’re getting Clone Commandos as the Republics brand new special unit that you’ll have to use your battle points to play as in a game. Popularized by the first-person shooter Star Wars: Republic Commando and later on in the Clone Wars television series, it’s great to see these versatile, important troops make their way onto the Battlefront. The main incentive to play is their transforming blaster rifle with multiple firing modes. And it even has a grenade launcher.
