This January, Marvel is saying goodbye to its Star Wars: Bounty Hunters series. The solicitations for January confirm that the series will end with its 42nd issue. This is something that was heavily hinted at during Marvel’s Star Wars panel at NYCC. Now, it is official, with Marvel confirming the news and even releasing the synopsis for the final issue. However, writer Ethan Sacks is not leaving the Star Wars universe anytime soon. He is shifting to a new Star Wars project set for next year.

Marvel’s Bounty Hunter series kicked off in early 2020 and takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Ethan Sacks remained on the series as writer for the entire run. As the name implies, the Marvel series focused on the bounty hunters of the Star Wars Universe. This includes iconic characters like Boba Fett, Beilert Valance, and Bossk.

The final issue promises a climax of epic proportions. The issue will tie up loose ends that have been four years in the making. A synopsis for Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #42 reads:

“THE EXPLOSIVE END OF THE SAGA! VALANCE THE BOUNTY HUNTER has one final mission to complete…and it may indeed be his LAST! Can he and the crew fight their way past BOBA FETT…and JABBA’s SECRET WEAPON? The GRAND FINALE of the series that’s four years in the making!”

Continuing In A Galaxy Far, Far Away

While Bounty Hunters is coming to an end, this is not the end of the stories Marvel has built in the Star Wars Universe. In fact, Ethan Sacks is moving on from one bounty hunter to the next. The writer is lending his talents to the upcoming Star Wars: Jango Fett series. Sacks and artist Luke Ross tackle the legacy of Jango Fett in the new series. That will be released in March of 2024.

It doesn’t look like Marvel is slowing down with the Star Wars universe. In January, Star Wars: Thrawn – Alliances from Timothy Zahn, Jody Houser, and artists Andrea Di Vito and Pat Oliffe begins. Then, in February, the limited series Star Wars: Mace Windu releases. This series, from Marc Bernardin and George Jeanty, follows Mace on a mission to stop a world-changing secret from falling into the wrong hands.
