This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information.

One of the new quests for the Wizard in Stardew Valley‘s newest update has you chasing down something called Prismatic Jelly. The only problem with this is that you don’t pick the quest up from the Wizard, you pick it up from the Special Orders board, and the entry for the request is a little vague:

I require assistance in tracking down the rare and dangerous prismatic slime within the local caves. Bring me a jar of its prismatic jelly, and you will be duly rewarded.

–M. Rasmodius

It’s kind of a given what direction you should head in when a posting says something like “the local caves” but with the rate the creature that drops this shows up, you may find yourself wondering if your assumption was wrong pretty easily. That’s why we’re here to help and, thankfully, it’s a bit easier than one might think.

Where to Find Prismatic Jelly

Well, the first thing you’re going to want to know about this is that it won’t drop from any existing creatures previous to version 1.5. With this new update, we’re introduced to the Prismatic Slime, which is the primary source of the Prismatic Jelly you’re looking for. While the drop rate of a Prismatic Jelly is 100%, it’s finding these little slimes that proves to be the difficult part as they spawn at any level of the Skull Cavern or the mountain mine. Along with that, they don’t really appear even sporadically until you reach level 95 to 115 of the mountain mine so it’s recommended that you have those levels unlocked before you attempt farming some of this Prismatic Jelly.

The best way to go about this is to take the elevator down in the mountain mine to level 95, zoom the camera way out, and take a look around for anything unique looking. Like most other unique creatures, the Prismatic Slime changes colors slowly so it should be relatively easy to find on the map. If you don’t find any, take the elevator to level 105 and repeat; the same goes for level 115; after that, take the elevator to level 0 and repeat until you’ve found the slime and then the jelly.

Please note that these slimes do not spawn until you’ve taken the Wizard’s order so don’t try to farm Prismatic Jelly before so you have extra time to do this or do it early because you’ll just be wasting precious in-game time. You get a fair amount of in-game time to find this so, using this method, you should be able to get the jelly in time but keep in mind as this is a completely randomized spawn, it may go poorly or well for you, this guide is just trying to maximize your chances.

Right now, the jelly can only be used to fulfill the terms of this Special Order but Stardew Valley likes to not be wasteful so I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if this was used for something else in the future. Were you able to find any? How many tries did it take for you to get it? Let us know in the comments section below and happy hunting!
