Superpowers in Warzone 2? That’s not something that an ordinary fan might think about as new Call of Duty content in the first place. The Call of Duty and The Boys crossover is the latest trend of Warzone 2 Season 4 Reloaded, and it has changed the playstyle in nearly every facet of the game. The new additions let you shoot laser beams from Captain Price’s eyes or disappear Farah to teleport to the sky. How much do these new superpowers change the game in Season 4 Reloaded? Is the Call of Duty and The Boys crossover a good decision by Activision? Let’s find out.

Why The Boys’ Superpowers Ruin The Warzone 2 Gameplay Balance

Adding bundles and skins of Starlight or other The Boys characters is a fresh idea to bring to the game. But including their superpowers in Call of Duty game modes causes a lot of trouble. One of the reasons they are bad is due to the random nature of obtaining superpowers in Warzone 2. Furthermore, those powers do not match the gameplay style of Call of Duty in the slightest. Adding Homelander’s laser vision in a dedicated game mode isn’t a bad idea, but forcing that in the main playlists serves nobody well.

This isn’t the first event or crossover we’ve witnessed in Warzone, as we had Godzilla Vs. Kong last year. The thing is, even Godzilla and Kong were integrated better in that game than these powers.

Despite fans being mixed on whether they like the superpowers or not, this shouldn’t be something that runs in the default game modes. This suddenly changes the Warzone playstyle and, more importantly, adds a considerable amount of RNG to what a skill-based experience should be, thus lowering the skill gap across the board.

You can find a Temp V serum as ground loot in every map and every mode. After you inject this serum, you’ll gain a random superpower from four variations of it. This is fun, cool, and new, but in the main playlists? No way. This limits how the players would like to enjoy the gameโ€”even the Godzilla Vs. The Kong event was better than this because you could play the game with Godzilla included or not.

Giving players the option to choose which modes they would like to play is one of the critical aspects of a successful online game. This is why many players leave Warzone because there is no sense of consistency in the gameplay. We have the normal Resurgence mode for one season, and for the next update, we get to see Call of Duty operators dealing with The Boys. There is just no consistency experience anymore.

The Superpowers Need a Separate Warzone 2 Playlist

So after downloading 15 GB and updating the game, I jumped into action to see what’s new in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 Season 4 Reloaded. It’s fun to see soldiers and enemy operators flying around the map and shooting electro-shockwaves for a while. After a few matches, the sense of regret reaches you when you get stomped by enemy players and instakilled by Homelander’s lasers coming off of Soap’s eyes for the hundredth time.

This crossover is just unbalancing the game for the sake of making things appear more fun than it actually is. The competitiveness is now in question when superpowers are almost required to win a game of Warzone 2.

The real issue is that Activision is trying to spoon-feed its content to the players and it seems they’re running out of ideas. The game is solid and has a vast community; I love to experience it daily. But what makes decicated players like myself run away from the game? When I’m enjoying something, and instead of improving the experience, the developers add something that changes the fundamentals of the gameplay in such a negative fashion without an option to skip it.

If you play the Vondel and Ashika Island Resurgence and Battle Royal modes, you’ll face other players as supes. The only game mode that does not have the Temp V superpowers is the Ranked match, which still has some issues with matchmaking, and doesn’t feature a Resurgence mode. Hopefully, lessons are learned from this special event, and game changing abilities will be isolated to their own dedicated playlist in the future.
