On an update post from the game’s Kickstarter, game director Hidetaka Suehiro, known lovingly as Swery, announced the upcoming murder-mystery RPG The Good Life has been delayed from Q4 2019 to Spring 2020.

In the Kickstarter update, Swery notes that the decision to delay The Good Life is to deliver the game in “the best condition possible”. Not all is bad news though, Swery showcased some of the improvements during the development of The Good Life. The game has gotten improved graphics, a larger map, new stores, and customized items. All this along with a bunch of new systems such as item gathering and gardening.

The Good Life was originally announced back in late 2017 through a failed Fig campaign before moving to Kickstarter, where the game eventually found success. The Good Life follows Naomi, a New Yorker who takes a job from a newspaper company to investigate and chronicle what goes on in an English town. The town does hide a big secret. After midnight strikes, the townsfolk turn into cats and dogs. As Naomi, you’ll be able to snap photos and share them to earn in-game money. This all sounds very Swery.

The Good Life

Swery is most known for directing the game Deadly Premonition. The survival horror game released back in 2010 on the Xbox 360 and PS3 and is known for its low-quality graphics, campy story, and cheesy voice acting. The game has since gained cult status and beloved by many fans around the world. Swery directed games such as D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die and The Missing J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories. Besides game development, the director became a Buddhist Monk.

In other Kickstarter news, SkateBIRD, a bird skateboarding game, reached its goal. Not everything has been peachy though, with Shenmue III running into some controversy with its backer rewards.

The Good Life will make its way to PS4, Xbox One, and Steam next year.
