She’s officially in her “Rep”-era joyride, and this one’s guilt-free. Taylor Swift celebrated her monumental win, regaining ownership of her master recordings, by sharing a joyful moment with longtime friend and collaborator Jack Antonoff. The pair marked the occasion with laughter, music, and a spontaneous kitchen dance party. In a playful clip shared by Antonoff on X, formerly known as Twitter, the two joyfully belted out Swift’s 2017 hit “Getaway Car.” The longtime collaborators danced around a kitchen, clearly savoring the celebratory moment.
Clutching her cat, Meredith, in one arm, Swift belted out lyrics with Antonoff by her side. She looked every bit the glowing artist reclaiming her past. “Rep forever guilt-free listening!” Antonoff captioned the post, a cheeky nod to Swifties everywhere who have been eagerly awaiting her re-recorded “Reputation (Taylor’s Version).”
The sing-along came just hours after Billboard reported that Swift had successfully bought back the rights to her first six albums from private equity firm Shamrock Capital. It’s the same catalog that was sold off without her input in 2019. According to the outlet, the deal cost the pop icon around $360 million, a staggering figure, but one she was apparently more than willing to pay.
Fans wasted no time flooding the post with emotional reactions. “This has such a different meaning now,” one wrote, while another added, “I AM SOBBING SO HARD RN.” A third echoed the celebratory tone, sharing, “So happy you’re both celebrating the best! Such a gem!”
Taylor Swift Recalls Losing Her Masters
The road to this moment hasn’t been easy. In 2019, retired music manager Scooter Braun acquired Swift’s master recordings when his company, Ithaca Holdings, purchased her former label, Big Machine Records. Just a year later, Braun sold the catalog to Shamrock Capital. “[Scooter] has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy,” Swift wrote at the time, sparking a widespread public feud and a wave of support from fans and fellow artists.
In response, Swift took matters into her own hands, literally. Starting in 2021, the 14-time Grammy winner began re-recording her old albums under the “Taylor’s Version” label. She kicked things off with Fearless, followed by “Red,” “Speak Now,” and “1989.” With each release, she reclaimed not only her music but a powerful narrative of artistic ownership.
On Friday, Swift took to her website to share the deeply personal news, posting a handwritten-style message that captured her joy and relief. “I’m trying to gather my thoughts into something coherent, but right now my mind is just a slideshow,” she wrote. “A flashback sequence of all the time I daydreamed about, wished for, and pined away for a chance to get to tell this news… I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen, after 20 years of having the carrot dangled and then yanked away.” She concluded the emotional note with the words fans have waited years to hear, “All of the music I’ve ever made … now belongs … to me.”
From legal battles to late-night jam sessions, Swift’s journey to reclaim her legacy has been far from easy. But if Friday’s kitchen dance party is any indication, she’s right where she’s meant to be.
