The long-in-development Nioh developed by Team NINJA will be getting a weak-long demo later in the month.

The game sports heavy influence from Dark Souls, from the crazy enemies to even the tagline “Ready To Die ?” from the trailer. That being said, Nioh still has the Team NINJA aesthetics we’ve come to know and love.

Set in mythical feudal Japan, players take control of a powerful Samurai who commands the powers of spirit animals to fight demons. Team NINJA provided a full description on their YouTube page:

Set in a time of civil war in Japan, Nioh not only incorporates classic elements such as samurai and supernatural creatures from Japanese folklore but also offers the exhilaration of an authentic samurai sword fight straight from Team NINJA, the team that defined brutal action games.

The alpha demo will be available to download on the PS4 April 26 until May 5, after which it will be removed from the PSN completely. ย As with most demos, there are incentives to complete the teaser. Players who finish the alpha demo will earn exclusive downloadable content when the game launches, much like Final Fantasy XV’s Platinum Demo.

Nioh was announced in 2005 by Tecmo Koei and has been in development since. The long delay can be attributed to the next generation of consoles and developer Team NINJA working on other titles.
