The first Dying Light, and its expansion, The Following, were perhaps an underrated gem of the last generation, and the sequel hopes are high. Development on Dying Light 2 hasn’t been the smoothest, amid reports of issues behind the scenes, which developer Techland, who also created the Dead Island series, later denied. The game got delayed earlier in the year, but now, Techland has updated fans via their Discord server about the state of development for Dying Light 2.

It was later screen-grabbed and shared to the Dying Light subreddit. While it doesn’t offer anything concrete in the form of a release date or even any progress updates, it does at least point us towards a release window sometime in 2021, featuring a pun along the way.

The post read:

We’ve been, er, dying to update you all on how development has been going. We’ll have fresh updates about Dying Light 2 coming in the new year!

Dying Light 2

Dying Light 2 is taking a slightly different approach than its predecessor, as diverging storylines become the main focus. During the E3 and EGX demos, the developers walked us through the consequences of making choices in predetermined points in the narrative, such as the control of water within a city. You can choose to root out the gang that controls the supply at the cost of giving rise to a brutal dictatorship, or you can enter a partnership with the gang, which in turn invites criminal enterprises into the city to trade with, and creates a hive for scum and villainy (but unfortunately not that kind) and opportunities for their businesses to thrive.

Hopefully, we’ll have more to report come the new year, and we’ll keep you posted when more comes up. Until then, maybe give the first Dying Light a look-see – it’s actually currently enjoying a 70% discount as part of the Steam Winter Sale, so if there was a good time as any, it’s now.
