Teen Shot While Burying Pet in Southeast Houston Backyard as Neighbor Remains Free: ‘What a Trigger Happy Idiot’

Hopefully they get caught

Some people simply shouldn’t be allowed to own guns, and a recent incident in Houston, Texas, makes that point alarmingly clear. It happened on an otherwise ordinary Thursday afternoon. A teen and his younger brother were outside, preparing to bury their deceased pet guinea pig on their family’s property. It was meant to be a quiet, personal moment of closure, but things took a terrifying turn.

For reasons no one yet understands, a relative of their neighbor perceived their actions as threatening. Without warning, they opened fire on the teens. One of the bullets struck the 18-year-old. In a panic, the brothers ran for their lives, managing to make it back into the house just before more bullets rained down.

Their mother, Andrea, was in her room when her sons burst in. What she saw left her stunned: one of her boys was bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound. She rushed him to a local hospital, where doctors quickly took him into their care. Although his physical injuries were being treated, the trauma of the event clearly left a deeper scar.

The teen, shaken and uncertain if he would survive, reportedly told his mother that he loved her. He asked for a rosary, seeking comfort in something familiar during what he believed might be his final moments. Fortunately, he pulled through. He is now in stable condition and continues to recover at the hospital.

In an interview, Andrea said she couldn’t begin to understand what led the neighbor to shoot. She had never had any conflict with them, no arguments, no bad blood. Other neighbors echoed her confusion, saying they too were baffled by the shooter’s motives.

What makes this incident even more disturbing is that the teens were on their own property, laying their pet to rest. There was no trespassing, no provocation. This was not a case of someone defending their land. It was an unprovoked act of violence.

Redditors quickly rallied around the mother and teenage victim, expressing sympathy and disbelief over the senseless violence. Many were baffled by how someone could justify shooting at people who posed no threat and were simply on their own property. One user wrote, “Yo, this is messed up. Castle doctrine doesn’t apply if they never touched your property. What a trigger-happy idiot.”

Others pointed out that, sadly, they weren’t surprised such an incident occurred. Some argued that the area itself had a reputation for being unsafe. One commenter said, “It’s near Hobby, therefore super freaking cheap, and full of bad roads in the area. I don’t know what’s not to understand. That whole section of town is insane.”
