Tennessee Woman Alarmed By Company’s Dishonest Job Posting, ‘If You’re on Your Parent’s Insurance, You Should Be Fine’

Maybe health insurance shouldn’t be tied to employment

So many individuals on the job hunt are asking for the bare minimum at their prospective places of employment. Does it pay enough for you to afford rent and your bills? Will you be able to take a few days off every year for personal matters or vacation? Does it provide health insurance, which is a necessity these days? One Tennessee woman found out the hard way that even jobs that requiring a Master’s Degree still don’t believe in employee health insurance. It was enough to make my blood boil.

A woman shared on TikTok (@user345686432255789) how she endured a third interview for a “full-time salaried job that requested a master’s degree.” They told her they were interested in offering the position to her and she nods, happily. Then, they smack her with, “Btw, this position doesn’t offer health insurance… is that ok?” OP points out she applied to the job through its listing, which they claimed they would provide health insurance. They quickly backtrack with, “We only offer it to those in senior positions,” but she has the receipts. She points out in the other interviews they never specified that.

Amazingly, they try to tell her, “If you’re on your parent’s insurance, you should be fine.” Suddenly, this opportunity isn’t sounding as stable as it once was. You can just tell by her face she isn’t happy, nor interested whatsoever.

In the comments, one person asked, “Genuine question: Did they provide extra compensation for you to get your own insurance?” To which OP replied, “NO” (because, of course they wouldn’t!) She then went on to explain, “It was genuinely the weirdest teams meeting I’ve ever been in I just went, ‘Oh… ok well then no? I’ll have to decline’ and they were SHOCKED about it????”

OP said in another comment the reason why they didn’t tell her upfront is likely due to lack of interest in the position. She said of her other places of employment. “Every single one I’ve worked with DOES offer it cause… duh it’s health insurance. But this one didn’t and lied about it, probably bc ppl wouldn’t apply if they were honest.”

Furthermore, it’s disgusting to assume a full-time employee can just hop onto their parent’s insurance. And why is a job that’s requiring such an outstanding degree choosing to not offer health insurance to employees? Why don’t we demand more from jobs that demand so much from us? It’s truly one of the things that’s so wrong with major employers these days and it needs to change.
