Whether or not you’re a dog lover, nobody wants to share their table with a drooling golden retriever. But that’s exactly what happened at a bar in Austin. A customer’s dogs were allowed to sit on the tables and benches outside, leaving their hair and drool behind. Needless to say, most people would find that gross, and one particular patron of the bar had had enough of the nastiness and took his complaints to Reddit.
“I’m talking about drawing a line in the sand,” the poster growled, showing a photo of a golden retriever and bulldog waiting for their owners at the tables outside. They continue, complaining how “Austin’s dog culture is too lax.” Many people in the city allegedly take their dogs into bars and let them sit on the floor while they drink and have a good time.
OP explains that most owners at least keep their dogs leashed and on the floor. But this time, the dogs were lounging on actual tables—which crosses the line. “This has just gone way too f**king far IMO,” they grumble. And it would seem many are in agreement with how inconsiderate dog owners can be when they want to take their pets everywhere with them.
The top commenter of the post recalled how a woman came to their coffee shop with her dog. However, after telling her that she’d have to make sure her pet stays outside, she stormed out and sent the shop’s owner an email lying about how “extremely rude” the worker was and what a “horrible person” they are. Of course, the boss was understanding and knew that none of what the woman said was actually true, but the story, as well as the photo in the post, seemed to resonate with and irritate many people.
Several Redditors replied to the top commenter’s story, joking how the dog woman in the coffee shop story wrote a review on Facebook, “that the owner assaulted her and she will sue.” Another chimed in on the jest, saying, “Then the dog wrote a bad review. Said the staff was ruff.” Puns aside, plenty more people complained about their bad experiences with careless pet owners. Even a dog owner put in their two cents about how thoughtless some people can be:
“I hate that people just keep their dogs off leash everywhere now. I bring my dog to dog-friendly spaces, but she mostly just sleeps under my table while tied to my hips. Why people think it’s okay to just let your dog loose in public with zero training, I will never understand.”
Dozens of commenters shared their own horror stories, many just as frustrating as the OP’s, with dogs crawling over tables, barking indoors, or being completely untrained. There certainly seems to be a common trend among people who are fed up with annoying Austin dog owners who believe their dogs are lovely furry companions that everyone should put up with. One thing’s for sure, though. If these owners ever scroll through this comment section, they’ll definitely realize they’re the only ones who think their dogs are darling angels.
