Weed has been a hot topic for years now. Some people are all for legalizing it, while others can’t stand the idea. But recently, Texas made its stance loud and clear. Tom Oliverson, who’s also a physician, voiced strong concerns. He couldn’t support people self-medicating with weed and THC without proper guidance from medical professionals.
Once Oliverson spoke up, other representatives started taking a harder line too. That shift in momentum changed the tone of the entire debate and led to a stronger push for a complete ban.
Of course, not everyone is on board. Critics argue that the ban could do more harm than good. It restricts adult freedoms and could seriously hurt small businesses that rely on legal THC sales. Some even worry that shutting off access might drive desperate people toward more dangerous, illegal alternatives.
Many internet users aren’t happy about the news. One person commented, “Texas: you can have guns but not a joint,” reflecting the frustration with what some see as backward priorities. Others pointed out the contradiction in banning weed while alcohol and tobacco, which also carry health risks, are still legal and untouched by similar crackdowns. Some found the potential punishments completely over the top. One Redditor said, “Up to a YEAR in jail for having ANY THCA on you is actually insane. What the f***.”
Some users began to wonder what would happen if they bought weed from other states and had it delivered. A few replied that while THC products might still be federally legal to ship, Texans could still face legal trouble just for possessing them. One user pointed out, “Most of the sites I’ve seen already don’t ship to states that have banned it. Not worth the legal headache I’m sure.”
Meanwhile, a handful of Redditors expressed outrage at being treated like children. Many couldn’t understand why Texas lawmakers chose to ban THC outright instead of simply regulating it. One frustrated user said, “Literally. Treating adult Texans like we’re toddlers who can’t make their own decisions. I’m not a Republican, but this seems so foreign to the ‘pro small government’ Republican Party I’ve seen my whole life.”
