Having the recipes for the best weapon abilities in Tears of the Kingdom will spare you a tear or two when fighting Lynels, Gleeoks, and even the mighty Demon King. Tears of the Kingdom introduces the fusion system as one of the new abilities in the game. This system allows players to merge weapons, shields, and objects to obtain different results, including weapons with additional effects, increased range, and outstanding damage-dealing capabilities. In this guide, we will explore the best weapon abilities in Tears of the Kingdom that come out through the use of Link’s new skill — Fusion.

Gem-infused Weapons

Combining gems is one of the best fusion options in the game due to its elemental properties (fire, ice, and electricity). These combinations enable regular attacks to launch elemental projectiles, providing offensive and strategic advantages. Of course, you could already do this in BOTW, so it continues to be one of the best weapon abilities in Tears of the Kingdom. But instead of feeling like an easter egg, Tears of the Kingdom‘s fusion system makes it feel much more organic. Not only will your weapon deal damage upon contact with the enemy, but also from afar. How the attached gem shoots an enemy dramatically depends on the type of weapon it’s fused to. For example, a greatsword could take longer to direct the elemental projectile. Still, a spear will quickly and directly shoot at enemies.

Stones or Rocks

Combine stones or rocks with spears or swords to enhance their effectiveness. Not only will the weapon get some extra damage from the fusion, but it also gets an extra ability: work as an axe or a hammer. The axe can quickly destroy any skinny tree — forest, palm, and Erd tree — in the game. Instead, the hammer can destroy ore deposits and get you some mineral ores like Opal or Topaz for your inventory. These two combinations are particularly useful for obtaining ores and breaking obstacles.

Metal Balls with Spikes

These combinations provide a significant boost in combat with a +15 damage bonus. They prove highly effective when facing enemies. When you defeat some enemies, especially Flux Constructs, they will drop objects that don’t have much utility but become fusion fuel for your best creations. Also, while overcoming some in-game obstacles, Bokoblins may throw balls with spikes at you. Why not throw their weapon into their own worst nightmare with one of the best weapon abilities in Tears of the Kingdom?

Elongated Spear

Merging spears or halberds together allows you to extend your attack range, giving you an advantage in combat situations. Spears are one of the fastest weapons in the game, pushing the enemy backward. In most cases, you can throw enemies off a cliff or a Sky Island using your regular spear. Now, with a double spear fusion, you can reach much farther, so you don’t have to be near enemies before driving them off the arena. This weapon ability is ideal for when you want to avoid being near enemies that deal with high damage.

Zonai Weapons with Zonai Construct Horns

Zonai enemies are tough to crack, but they will provide one of the best weapon abilities in Tears of the Kingdom. Depending on their level, ranging from I to III, their difficulty can range from regular enemy to a surprisingly demanding boss. When killing Zonai Construct Soldiers and Captains, they will drop their weapons and horns. Fusing these two together can result in a deadly weapon. Enemies with a higher number after their name may be more difficult to beat but provide more robust fusion materials.

Zonai Weapons with Zonai Devices

Thanks to the addition of Zonai Devices, you can make some of the best weapon abilities in Tears of the Kingdom. For example, your halberd can now spit fire at your foes with the flame-emitter or launch a rocket at your enemies with the rocket device. A shield with a fan? Just blow your enemies away, literally. Even the most ridiculous fusion will lead to something usable in battle, so don’t be afraid to get creative.

Shields with Zonai Devices

Fusing shields with Zonai devices allows your protective shield to become a flying device, a minecart, water or fire-emitter, and much more.

  • If you fuse your shield with a rocket, you will launch into the air when you activate your shield. This is particularly useful for those who want to avoid climbing on a rainy date.
  • A minecart fused shield will let you use your shield as a minecart to travel using the rails in the Sky Island, the Surface, and the Depths. The minecart will last as long as your shield’s durability allows.
  • Do you want to spit fire as you block, roasting your enemies while you do nothing? Attach a flame emitter to your shield, and your enemies won’t even come near you.
  • Are you dealing with the Zora sludge section and want to do some cleaning without relying on Sidon? Hydrant Shield is the way to go. You’ll splash water right before you as you walk forward.

Carrying a shield with Zonnan mechanisms is highly recommended, as it can be instrumental in various situations. The fact that you won’t be doing much but blocking makes it one of the best weapon abilities in Tears of the Kingdom.

Explosive Bow

Though you can’t directly fuse your bow with materials, you can fuse your arrows to create some of the best weapon abilities in Tears of the Kingdom. By now, you’ve probably picked up some Bomb Flowers in caves or the Depths. The best use you can give this item is to fuse it with an arrow and shoot it at a group of enemies nearby. It’ll deal explosive damage to as many of them as possible, giving you a significant advantage in battle. This weapon ability is handy when fighting against Frox, the considerable frog enemy who opens its mouth for you to drop a bomb inside.

Sneaky Bow

If you’re not feeling so confrontational, you can sneak up on your enemies and hit the Sneakstrike button instead. While the Stealth Outfit is a fantastic complement for your sneaky endeavors, the Puffshrooms you can pick up in the Depths are also great. By throwing an arrow fused with a Puffshroom at a group of enemies, a big cloud of smoke will cover the area and leave their backs vulnerable. You could easily take down a group of Bokoblins using this technique.

Confusion Bow

If Zonai Constructs run into Aerocludas, they will start fighting each other, leaving the playground open for you. In fact, you, too, can make enemies of the same kin fight against each other by fusing a Muddle Bud with your bow arrows. This fusion creates a bow that can confuse enemies and make them hit one another, instantly becoming Tears of the Kingdom. While this won’t make them kill each other, since their health bars deplete considerably slowly, it will keep them occupied for quite a while. This buys you time to either steal their goods and run away or plot a decisive attack strategy.

Tears of the Kingdom is available on the Nintendo Switch.
